well at least sally is getting fixed unlike our old maverick wich wasn't so lucky :rose:(

Brilliant pics Briggie (I'd often wondered what Santa Claus did between Christmases!)

These gearboxes are usually very reliable, I have been off-roading with several members who have owned Mistrals and they are very capable, I wouldn't criticise the cars or gearboxes in general, it's just Pete has has a couple of bad experiences - all behind him now!

But it does look like you need a new tyre mate :augie

Fantastic job in what look difficult working conditions :thumb2

did not find the real cause of the problem, other than the reverse clutch was burnt and slight metal showing on one plate, I suspect a valve was passing low pressure to this clutch when it should not have been as the clutch would not wear to this extent normally, when I have some time I will go through the valve block in detail and see if I can find it, although it looks a bit chaotic with new gaskets and seals and clutch parts it could be rebuilt, if there was a demand and the bits did not prove to expensive, Petes pics number 20 is the rear G/Box section where the parking pawl is located, Rick

Well stripped the rest of the box today, and found the real cause of the problem, the shaft that the reverse clutch assembly runs on had wear and had picked up metal wise, this is where the oil under pressure will go to the reverse clutch but as it was well worn but not smooth I guess it suffered oil starvation for some reason, one of the oil ways had a very small aperture and may have blocked but whatever it meant that on selecting reverse most of the pressure was lost through the large gap on the bearing surfaces, I can only guess as to why this happened, but a possibility is the failed drive plate last year that allowed the torque converter to run out of true, perhaps causing some damage, but more likely some debris blocking an oil way, Rick
