driver was see with big grin!!

im sure hell be back to tell us how it feels...at some point

so what time will Briggie get home..

welcome home sally

picked up sally from the garage with a massive smile on my face :D , ive been for a drive ( 70 miles ) and to be honest at first i hated it , but once i got used to the at switch and what it does , i love it , she drives a bit different than a " normal " auto , but ive got used to that now .

you can all pat yourselves on the back for what you have done , i cant believe people could do something like this .

special thanks to paul ( bat 21 ) , and also alan , clive, will and shane at the garage , apparently it was a b---td to fix .

:clap:clap:clap

thanks everybody , hope to see you soon

in fact i was enjoying myself that much i almost didnt notice the low fuel warning light :doh :lol

the difference this has made to me is imeasurable , i can now go almost anywhere i want ( subject to fuel lol ) and whenever i want , i dont have to wait for our lass to come home :thumb2

many many many sincere thanks for your amazing act of generosity :bow:bow:bow:bow:bow:bow:bow

Biggie just explain what you mean by "not like a 'normal' auto"....that statement makes no sense to me as a long term owner of an auto and wondering if all is OK? And what are you doing with this A/T switch?

auto

I know what briggie means they are different to UK autos
I think the gearing is different

paulp :thumb2 :thumb2

PS good to see Briggie back on the road

the imports have. the power hold / at / switch

very nice thing on them . my 300zx had it too ... and ooof what a difference.

be nice on the uk spec too

Autos are or can be an aquired taste....
I used to hate them till I got the E Class Merc, even then it took me a while to get used to it and how to get the best from it, it is truly a pleasure to use, it learns your driving style and shifts accordingly, it's tiptronic too so you can shift up and down by pushing the stick left or right, useful for engine braking etc.
My wife hates manuals, we recently got her an immaculate top spec manual A-Class merc. She hated it so much that I eventually gave in to the complaining, we sold it and got an auto version instead (which she loves).
They really come into their own in heavy traffic.

Glad you're back on the road Briggie!!

ive been " playing " with the a/t switch ...... omg what a difference !!!! . in " power " mode it sets off like a rocket , but seems to take ages to change gear , its like its stuck in first , then it sorta lurches into second with a jolt , ... in hold ( economy mode ) its very slow and you almost feel like getting out and pushing it , untill it gets going , in " auto " mode it sorta switches between the two , and is very un nerving when the power light comes on and it feels like its in second .

what ive learnt so far is .. dont put ya foot to the floor when setting off :augie

i think im getting used to it .... might have to go for another drive later on to be sure :lol:lol

just gotta sort the windscreen out now and bobs ya auntie , ive done just over 90 miles on £20 worth of diesel , thats not bad i spose considering ive been playing with the a/t switch

really happy for your briggie:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2 hope you enjoy your truck you deserver too after what you and sally have been though.... it must be true love:D you never gave up on her!!! 90miles:eek: ware you going or more like what you looking for!!!!!? and a big hand to bat21 for making it possible to get briggie and sally back on the road well done:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs

let us not forget , besides paul ( bat21 ) without the members that this could not have happened , the sheer generosity of which has been very humbling , let us also not forget the garage . bridgefield 4x4 . alan , clive , will and shane , who again without those this amazing act would not have been possible . :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

Gotcha, not quite like a newer auto box....the economy setting is for normal use, the power setting simply keeps it in gear until higher revs than normal to allow for brisker acceleration (but worse mpg) while the hold setting keeps it in a certain gear for, say, towing a caravan up a long hill.

The newer box has A/T, snow and sport....A/T=normal driving, snow sets it off in second gear, while sport is the equivalent of power on your box.

But with an auto box and only 100bhp don't expect a pocket rocket will you...economy should be fine for normal conditions

Good to see ya back on the road Pete:thumb2

:augie"Now all ya gotta do is ride around Sally":augie
