Hi all just decided to clean my 2007 pathy and noticed the leading edge above the windscreen has started to go rusty, on further investigation the ridge on each side of the roof that runs from front to back between the roof bars and the edge of the roof has a rust line all down its length, as if there is a seam underneath it that has split, anyone else come across anything like this ?
am starting to get a bit worried about it now.

Somebody mentioned this on here recently and they only found out about it because they had a new windscreen fitted and the guy that fitted it couldn't get it to seal right.

I wonder if he got it fixed :nenau

That's the sort of thing I would use Trustran (might be re-branded my bottle was 20 years old) or a similar product to fix. You paint it onto the corrosion that is visible and it converts the iron oxide (rust) into a sort of gun metal blue colour that is corrosion resistant. It takes about 12 hours to work and if there is a lot of rust then a bit of careful scrubbing with a copper bristle brush (suede shoe brush) if you get at it helps.

There are other brands that do the same thing I think it is Phosphoric Acid based repeat applications might be required if there is a lot of iron oxide to "eat".

I used it on an Toyota MR2 that had rusting around the front windscreen caused by the trim clips where they cut the paint during assembly. It kept the issue at bay for the 7 years we owned it. P.S. if you mask around the area it reduces the risk of paint staining.

A similar product I've used on my T2 for rust conversion is Fertan. Very effective, but quite expensive here in Belgium.
