Goog effort for a first time, however it wont last five minutes cos you did not prime the metal before painted it :doh.
You need to put primer on before the colour because the paint needs something to stick to. You may find rust starting to show through very soon, but as you know how to do it now you will be ok. :thumbs
Also get your self a DA air sander, this will "Fether" the edges of the old paint so you get a smother finish when you add the new top coat.
Painting is all practice and preperation, the more of them you do the better the end result.
Great first attempt though, mine wernt that good at your age. :lol
PS, one other thing, dont do it out side if its cold as the paint will go dull and no amount of polish will get it to shine again.
if it does go again, i'll just prime it, i didnt think this paint needed primer as it actually said, degrease surfice and spray onto metal/plastic surface :nenau
If its one of them can things, some dont need a primer as its a differnt type of paint. A bit like hammeright, you can paint it on anything and it sticks.
Not good for a good finish though, but on an inside door it will do the job ok. Dont get to excited with the grinder though, deep gouge marks ars a bugger to get rid off, keep the disk as flat to the surface as you can. If you put a new disk on, a good stone block will help take the hard edge off before you use it on the truck. :thumbs
What you should have used once the paint and rust was removed was a good rust killer, at least it will kill the rust longer than just paint:thumb2
Wilkos red oxide, its sound tbh, then overpaint with a rattle can
This thread reminds me I need to tackle a spot by my osr light too
