Arhggg just noticed a rust bubble on the rear of the sill, looks like it has come through from the bottom of the leading edge of the rear wheel arch. Has anyone else had this? have not had rust holes in a car for years.

we have welded the sills on 2 of our T2's in the last year at the bottom near the rear wheel.

How have you got on with the rust Jim ? I've just bought a 1999 swb deisel terrano and there is rusting to one sill at the rear end I wonder can it be possible to rot from inside these days on a vehicle not that old ( 8 years !!). -I'll be examining it with a scraper soon as soon as the weather warms up out there. I will fully waxoil the whole of it as I.ve done with three previous Mavericks and have never seen any of these problems on them but done two of them when only I year old. I notice there's dried mud in the chassis (felt thro access holes) which in my opinion needs to be got rid of -can it be pressure washed out? before I do the homemade waxoiling???

Heres a picture of my offside sill after I'd attacked it with a twist knot brush in the angle grinder

If you click the rigt arrow, theres 2 more photos of that sill. At te beginning of that album theres also some recent photos of the patches I've just put into the rear arches and the boot floor, check your rear sat belt mounts in the inner arches as these seem to be a problem area as well as the sills.

The extent of the rot amaizes me in the pictures and it takes me back to old BMC days ( sub frame drops out of 1100's rotten body) - I'll be more inquisitive in future when I buy any of these cars!!! It may well be I've got to set to with the welder then !! -but due to this vehicle being 99 I hope the rot is not extensive but I'll be examining all the areas you have photo'ed in fact I'll go thro the whole body with a fine toothcombe. It underines what my motor engineer mates always preached KEEP THE WATER OFF THE METAL but shame on nissan I think for not treating these areas better FROM NEW. I waxoiled both our previous Mavericks from nearly new and they were rot free when we sold them and the last LWB deisel (66000 miles ( 6 y old)fetched £7300 against our (waxoiled from new) Toyota L Cruiser 2003 no visible rust at all. I've got a swb Mav I took to Crete last year and there was rot to both inner wings where they meet the bulkhead but although there was rot too on front inner front vallances I couldn't see any further but at least the weather's dry there and it might not go any further (it's bee lathered in Waxoil as well just in case.

Mines going there too but that wouldn't have been an MOT fail so left that for later. The end of the front nearside bumper reinforcer has also rusted right off though I've removed it anyway and bumpers are only plastic skins now.

The SWBs seem to go on the back of the sill whee there is a vertical seem through it, LWBs don't seem so badly affected. Mine spent its early life up in scotland and hasn't exactly been molly-coddled by me so its probably a particularly bad example. It would probably fair better if I washed the mud off it every now and again. The rear arches are getting bad too but I intend to just cut them away and fit some arch extensions to cover the planned increase in tyre size.

I've just been on the phone to Gordon Lamb Dealer (chesterfield parts dep) in Jap cars 01246 267545 he can supply a sill complete with all sections at £140 plus vat with dis for trade No wonder my cleaver mate who breaks landys says he's got rid of his Amazon and gone back to a '110' because he found unhelpfull distributers of parts for that jap vehicle. He only had it a year...
