That riva type car is cheap as chips and is bought specifically by shit hole eastern block country's that can't afford or fix a modern car.

My daughter, who lives in Spain, had a Lada Niva 4x4. Would go anywhere, well, when it was running anyway.
It was a real Blue Peter job, held together with string (to operate the windscreen wipers from the drivers seat), a mole wrench to hold the exhaust manifold on, a bottle of water in the car in lieu of windscreen washers (it passed a Spanish mot in that condition!) and she absolutely loved it - broke her heart when her husband arranged for the local scrap-metal dealing gypsies to take it away!

Nivas are awesome and still available here (in LHD form). I've seen precisely one of the new ones.

The Riva (first one pictured) has just gone out of production at long last. I miss the days when you could buy cheap shite like that brand new. These days, cheap cars are just boring.

Of course, the Russian big wigs kept the best cars for themselves...

My dad had a Moskvich van in the 70's. We were poor but we didn't live " shit hole eastern block country ". Just England. David.
