Just wondering, has anyone tried heating oil as a fuel?

I think you would find that HMRC /VOSA and other interested parties, would enjoy picking you to pieces, as this form of fuel is taxed at a vastly different level to road diesel, and I think carries a chemical marker, I am sure it is similar, if not the same as red diesel used for agri machinery, under very specific controls.....
I'm sure someone else will expand on this soon, but a definite no go I would suggest.....

Ooh kerosene is in the list...

Doesn't mention paraffin though :naughty

Have to mix it with engine oil apparently as it burns to hot or something :nenau

Happens a lot in Belgium - but there are very regular checks at highway entrances/exits, service stations etc. Even had a check once while out shooting.

Fine would be about 500 EUR I think, here. More if you are caught again.

If we are talking kerosene then please do not bother, I would give you a couple of K miles and your pump and injectors will be naff, sure you can add oil but really not worth the risk, red derv is OK for your engine but not for the customs man, Rick

Why pump and injectors naff? Thought kerosene is oil based?

Also looking at injector cleaner the main ingredient is kerosene :nenau

Or are you suggesting running neat will be far too harsh for the engine?

Kerro while it is oil based does not have the same lubrication properties as derv, and in a heating pump runs at only 100 psi or so, not the 2000 psi in an engine, Rick
