I'm taking out the comp bushes and fitting instead some modified X-Eng joints. These essentialy bolt to each side of the plate that used to carry the comp bushes and arm. Mine were nasty anyway and had to be welded up for the last mot.

So the end of the arm will be threaded into the rod that bolts onto the bottom arm. So making it adjustable:thumbs

IF I can find some sensibly priced coil over shocks then I'd try those too instead of the torsion bars.
Again only to get adjustment not because they're technically any better:augie

is that not pete's steering fix ???

if so then yes its worth doing if your doing serious stuff. but i guess it can only be applied to the relay bar. how about the hub backs do they go there too?

all this is ok , but in my experience its the idler that fails in the set up. it bends or the bush cant take it and wears quickly . both giving massive play in the steering

that's before you start on the extra strain that you put on the system with big wheels. when you think mine were 19% bigger 33 inch tyres are probably 14% bigger

but no one knows or has measured the strain on steering or the braking systems but it wont be anything like 19 or 14% . my guess is probably 3-400 percent

then you shove it down some rutty track that is ripping both wheels apart in all directions.

unless you can come up with something that dont need plastic bushes and is more substantial than the standard idler (even with the extra makeitfit brace) you wont ever fix the steering on a t2

we know the extra left hand drive steering box works , but is expensive.
so
has anyone looked at a bar straight from the steering box to the passenger side hub.

Think so, similar or the same :thumbs
My steering damper is on & does help n make a difference

The 1 thing that me n Pete have discussed is that we both agree that despite what anybody says, although the Mk1 Square headlamp & Mk2 Twin Round headlamp are mechanically the same, we think there are minor calculation differences as mine has had abuse n still haven't buggered the idler.
The bracket didn't go straight on mine either & we both know mine was mint before getting the off road bug.
So myself n Pete are sure that the Mk1 has better / stronger / different measurements / angles.?

What we need is a proper bookworm on Nissan (NOT taking the P) or someone with vast Nissan knowledge (former / current mechanic) current or retied to tell us if there are any differences.?

tht looks like what id call the track rod ends, is that right?? if so, might buy new myself...

Does the same thing at the end of the day, its when it comes to wear the rose joint will be better :thumb2

On these conventional type

the metal stud you bolt down onto and the load bearing part is an interference fit into the housing. Very strong but once it has 7 bells knocked out of it its on the way out with nothing to adjust. You also have more limited set up adjustment limited by manf tolerance.

On the type in the other pics the joint can be adjusted and /or the bush or load surfaces shimmed with collets or similar to take up wear and tear that causes slackness :thumbs

Also easier to undo/get a grip of/remove when they do start to wear.

We used to spend hours farting around with the damned things on the aircraft getting the settings right :doh
