Hi all, my next project on my truck is to fabricate some rock sliders.

I have some 50mm box and 50mm round tube, not sure which i am gunna use yet.

My question is whats the best way to attach them to the chassis?

I did originally have steps on, which i promptly removed, but cant remember how they were attached...

Cheers
Stephen

Side steps are originally attached to the chassis using brackets.

Other members have improved on this method though and made some proper rock sliders.

Best regards, Rustic

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Anyone got any pictures of either the bars or the mounting method?
I think i will probably just go with a straight bar, no attempts at fancy designs etc, just not sure about mounting them onto the chassis...

this might be of help

If you go for this method, then waxoyl the mating surfaces and everthing else bolts etc, otherwise you are creating a rust trap between the two steel surfaces.

This looks really substantial.

When I do mine I'm welding them, sommit like this:

What holes...?

as far as i can see i have only three tapped holes in the chassis where they could possibly go....

i will take some snaps of the chassis tomorrow, i may just not be seeing the obvious

Hi guys, quick update on this...

Made the side bars, nice simple straight ones, nothing fancy.
I did fancy them being chromed, so i visited a local plater company and they basically said that because they were made from mild steel the cost of plating them would be around £200 per bar and they couldn't guarantee how long it would last.....i nearly fell over...

So i decided to just paint them a nice silver, to match the lower bodywork.

looks good, how thick is the metal you used for the brackets?

can I be educated as to what is the purpose of these bars, there are chassis members lower that will ground well before those bars:confused:, Rick

to protect the side of the truck from bangs and scrapes

so what happens to the X member that carries the torsion bars, it is a lot lower, do you not get snagged on this? I certainly do going over a peak, twice had to winch off may not have needed to if gone over at speed but never know what is the other side so have to stop at top to see, I cannot be faffed with walking it first takes the fun out of it, do or die, Rick
