I'm looking at hooking up one of the rear spots as a reversing light.
Does anyone know the law regarding brightness?
Could I get away with fitting a 3 way switch to isolate the spot?

Would it be easier just splicing off the existing wiring to the new spotlight (and be legal/MOTable)?

I wired two LED work lights on the roof to the reverse lights and never had a problem, can easily be isolated if needed. However, I believe the reverse lihts are now part of the mot which they weren’t before May this year.
They make a world of difference to reversing the vehicle.

I also have 2 led lights on the rear of my roof rack. I nearly wired them to come on with reversing lights but decided against it. I have a switch on the centre console and a switch in the boot area. :thumb2

The legislation used to be a maximum of 2 reversing lights wattage not exceeding 24 Watts each.

That was under the old Construction & Use Regs. With modern vehicles with LED's they have to have the appropriate type approval markings instead

I used an extra switch and relay for "Off Road only use" on our old Mini it had a boot mounted round fog light with a 100 W bulb.
