Rev counter gone crazy

The rev counter on my Terrano r3mR has started acting up and sticking or just giving wild readings.

If I switch off and start engine again it will be OK for a while.

Anyone any ideas as to where to start to fix it ?

I'd be pulling the clocks out to see what's going on behind there, check all the connections
