Hi all I wonder if anyone can help, I need a 3 or 4 camera CCTV system with sound and recording, no problem with that but I also want to be able to look at the recordings from a remote location some miles away, so though about a laptop with a big hard drive hooked up to broadband, then in theory I can access it from away, but I have no experience of this at all, will it work, what are the limitations, Rick

Try this, have been using it for a month or so and the only problem is setting the sensitivity to my liking, recieve an email clip of each activation, but uses standard webcams and at a reasonable cost.

NAS hard drive will be the answer!

Many come plug in CCTV, so you just need to add the cameras. Cameras are best CCD type ones for quality and night vision.

You access your computer through the NAS drive online from anywhere in the world - you can even print on your home printer remotely, access your home programmes and data as well as check your security.

They start from around £150 upwards, and are best bought online, as they are often alot cheaper than the PC stores. Samsung do a very neat, high spec system for around £200 - secures all your data too!

Hi Rick what sort of cameras r u after, I'm just about to list some of these that I found lurking at the back of stores.

They are Pan Tilt Zoom with a 10 - 140mm Lense.

As for some thing sensible I may be able to get hold of some older dome cameras that we are upgrading.

:thumbs

if you have a dvr, then you can probably use some port redirection on your router and access it via a web address through your browser, that will give you access to all the cameras and the control interface, example http://RicksCamera.dyndns.orf or something like that

We do this at work.:thumbs
