Ive been fiddling with the old FarmFind again :sly
Rear visibility is a struggle in the commercial , especially on a Welsh night run :lol
Sooo, I raided my shelf of old stuff I bought while drunk on fleabay. and found a vintage rear view camera and mirror monitor screen.
Love a bit of chinese import :p
I decided to mount the camera bit within the high level brake light. Theory being it''ll keep clean from mud

Then there's the faff of an old skool wired camera, running the wires from back to front :doh
Here's the lens in the lens :naughty

And in situ, yes I know the window needs a clean :lol

At the front end I encountered a bit of Nissan Nonesense ?!
I decided to use the map light supply for the monitor as it's perm live and cm's away :thumbs
Red live, black earth, I thought............turns out that the bloody colours swap at the plug and socket  I spent half an hour thinking my ebay special was infact shite, but it was just Nissan shite wiring
A quick unwire and another rewire I had an image :D

A bit more arm in the air wire fiddling and I got all the wires back in the hole :)

I "was" feeling very pleased with myself till I actually reversed in real life and applied the brakes
The bloody rear brake bulb over exposes the camera and I see nothing :doh
Now this is where I need your help chaps.
I can do basic electrics but now I need to do some electrickery :bow
There must be a way of switching off the high level brake light when the reverse light is live ??
Any thoughts :thumb2

A simple relay should do the trick and not be that difficult to install either. So that when you select reverse it breaks the contact to the high level brake light. Once reverse is deselected the relay unpowers and the high level brake light is reinstated.

I can't see in my head how to do it ? Normally the relay powers up on trigger. Is there a Normally open relay ?

It is common to have a change over relay so one leg is powered when off and opens when putting power on to power the other leg, most 5 pin relays will be of this type, just look at the diagram that most have on the housing, Rick

Thanks guys I've been a googling . I know what to get now 🙂

Big thanks guys, I found a 5 pin relay in my box of bits.
Now wired in and no high brake light glare :D

Took me a bit of head scratching but all the rear end electrics are now in , tested and zip tied safely in place.
I've even got the side panel back in place

Onwards :naughty

Did you fish that relay out a Strata bog hole? :lol :lol

I bet that aint too healthy inside looking at those pins
