I’ve seen these crop a few times and seem to be becoming more and more regular that Terranos fail mot on these mountings that have rotted through.

My question is how do you protect them?

I’m guessing even waxoyl will get worn off by the movement of the springs, I’m assuming the springs rotate and move around as your driving.

Wonder if painting with grease is the way to protect them?
 
They sit in a rubber mount so shouldn't be any metal to metal contact.
I suspect crud gets trapped between that and the chassis.
Also probably a lower grade quality of steel used on the newer ones as its a fairly common problem on them.
 
Mne aren’t through but I can see rust developing. May just see if I can splodge grease up there for the winter.
 
Trouble with doing that is you could trap moisture in there.
Only way is to clean off the rust and get them dry properly before applying any sort of protection.

I've replaced mine and all I did was remove the lower shock mount and used a jack between the axle and chassis to push the axle down:thumbs
 
Just keep an eye on your centre brake hose getting tighter above the diff Jim.
That's if it's a similar rear axle set-up to the Patrol?
Easier job on the rear springs than the fronts for sure.
 
Cheers for the advice, it’ll have to wait for a few weeks as my other truck is off the road until sills get sorted.
