After buying and receiving this morning the spring spacer kit off of "puddle hoppers inc" (Thank You), I decided to have a play this afternoon and fit them.

Still need to lift the front a bit, and will need to get longer shocks in the near future, but I like the look, and it sorts out the saggy rear end.

Also, I know someone was asking about the rear springs, so I took some pictures.

Basically,
I lifted the car up onto stands under the chassis,
took the wheels off,
jacked the axle right up till it was just starting to lift the car off the stands,
Fitted the spring compressors.

Lowered the axle
Removed bottom nut from both shocks, and moved them out the way.

Removed the anti-roll bar mounts from both sides. I started off trying to do it at the tie rod end, but I could not get it undone, as it was just turning, and the ones on my car do not have an Allen key insert to hold it still.

Dropped axle right down, and there was then just enough room to fit the spacer.

I then swapped the spring compressors onto the other side and repeated, but this side was bit harder owing to the springs and spacer still pushing it down. Ideally, for this job you need compressors for both sides at the same time.

Nice little write up & your truck looks good:thumbs i'm thinking about putting a lift on mine & the wife is starting to come around to the idea:D but if I do i'll prob go for just a 40mm lift as I will worry to much about the front CV's but 1.5" must be better than nothing:augie

Your cvs will be fine matey.get it lifted.:thumb2
Good write up and pics Clive.

Looking good bud :thumb2

Yeh I was asking about springs as I've got a full set of lifted ones to fit to the Trol at the weekend :D

Thanks

It was quite funny when I picked Suz up from the train station tonight, she climbed up and said, "I am sure this car gets higher off the ground each day.."

I had to snigger. :D:D

Ahhh, so a write up on a T2 was not a lot of help to you.. sorry.:doh

Yeah they"ll be fine :augie :p

Have had 4 terranos over the years of which 3 have been lifted.
All been off roaded and never broke a cv yet(touch wood)
Not saying it won't happen but so far so good.
As long as the front bump stops are intact you will never exceed the max angle.

As you say, the bump stops are your protection, and they will be staying. I mainly want a bit more height, so when I am wading in the floods, there is less body down in the water.

Last year, where we were deployed, the flood water was literally just under the bottom of the door, but the slightest wave, and it would have gone over. Bearing in mind, we were often 3 or 4 up as well, and I had to get in and out of the truck, to hitch up to the morons who had killed their cars driving in it and then take them down to the waiting police car, who was writing out tickets for driving down a closed road, I want to keep as much of it out of the car as possible.

My main concern is over stressing the torsion bars, don't want to snap one of those.

I need to check for these actually! I presume they look the same as the rear ones?

perhaps a silly question, where will I find them?

You can get uprated torsion bars from the likes of Pedders etc (not cheap though :nenau)

If im not mistaken it doesent actually lift the truck any higher, just a stronger over expensive bar. Just reindex if you are desperate to push it to the limit :thumbs

I did read about them via Google, and the impression seemed to be that overall they were not very good as they tend to push the wheels down so hard onto the ground, that rather than raising up when you articulate, they just end up lifting the other wheel off the ground.

I have already Re-indexed when I got the truck, but do not want to push it to the limit.

just a stronger over expensive bar

That's exactly what it is bud ;) but he's concerned about the original bars cracking due to age/stress - a stronger bar would be less likely to do that and as I understand it reindexing is a way to correct for the effects of age but won't take away those effects :nenau

Was just putting it out there as an option anyway :)

Yeh that would make sense :( though in fairness you're always going to be more likely to cock a leg with IFS anyway :nenau

True... I think I will just wind them up a little bit more, just to level it out, and see how she goes. I don't mind the front being a bit lower, as it acts as a good guide, e.g., if the front clears a lump, you know the back will be ok :D

For the price of that kit, I could just buy an old MOT failure T2, nick the bars, and sell the rest for spares, and still be quids in...:lol

Just finished fitting the 2" body lift... Wow it's a long way up into the car now.

That was an epic job, fitting the kit is so easy, but then refitting the bumpers and bull bar is another days work.

I will get some pictures in the morning, as it is too dark now.

Took the car out for a drive, and found I kept missing the gear lever...:lol

I wound up the torsion bars a bit as well.

I have decided I am going to lift the intercooler, as it looks silly so far down. Does anyone know the sizes of the two joiner hoses?
