I take it you ran wires to the back? I just ran it off the front cigarette lighter

Why put the inverter in the back?
Why not place it as close to the battery as possible and run cheaper mains flex. :nenau

Someones gonna have to tell me what a inverter does again. Does it put 12v up to 240v or somthing?:nenau

that is exactly what it does, and they pull lots of amps, my one at home pulls 300 amps at 24 volts thats 600 amps at 12 volts = very big cables so it always makes sense to mount as close to the battery as pos, that is why the national grid runs hundreds of thousands of volts in the national cables, otherwise at 240 volts they would have to run cables the size of double decker buses or more, Rick

We have an 800 Watt ( 1000 Watt peak) on the boat, and if I use a 300 Watt electric drill, and work it hard, say cutting large holes with a hole saw, it trips the overload in the inverter.

So consider what you want to use the inverter for and then get a bigger one.

A 150 Watt inverter may be enough for a lap top, but not enough for your wife's curling tongs.

Hope this helps.

best regards,
Rustic

What's the green light for? just so you know power is switched on?

I fitted two cig lighters in the rear lamp covers next to tailgate, used the internal lamps on mine. I ran some heavy cable from battery via a seperate relay and fuses, didn't want to risk perminant live so I didn't leave anything on and flatten battery. Fancy a second battery and may be a perminant then.

sounds a good idea,

but

240v running through the car body if something goes wrong.. my hurt a little

"240v running through the car body if something goes wrong.. my hurt a little"
Not if you use an rcd at the invertor end, any problems/mishaps no matter how minor and it will trip.

I fitted an RCD on my inverter on the boat, and you can't get scarrier than that with water all around you..:thumb2
