Whilst under the motor today fixing an exhaust mounting, I noticed some quite bad corrosion around the rear crossmember chassis to body mounting. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and would it be repairable? If so, what price would I expect to have both sides repaired? I am OK with mechancal problems but not body work or welding. It is a 2000 2.7 TDi. This seems a bit bad for the age of the vehicle and I am surprised it was not picked up at the last MOT.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Thanks,

im sure if theres acess its posible to do but dont have a clue what it would cost..

I had some rot that appeared after the winter salt just in the middle of the rear cross member on my Terrano R3mR.

It turns out it is double skinned and I had it patch welded by my local MoT station a non-franchise repair shop.

The guy who did the welding cut out the rot with a small disc cutter rather than weld over the top and its continuous MIG welded so its well up to MoT standards and is pretty neat.

He charged me £50 cash - whist not cheap it was a good job and he did not set fire to my truck!

Its a bit late now but I have waxoyled / spray undersealed the whole of the rear end during the hot spell so I am hoping it will not get any worse. I have not as yet done inside the cross members as that is best done on a ramp.

I toyed with the idea of a full warranted underseal job by a specialist firm but a decent job is around £450-600 and that a lot to spend on an old truck.
