Has anyone got some advice about removing the rear bumper please. I'm sure I've heard someone mention that there are two sets of bolts and not to touch one set of bolts as they snap. Photos would be great too.

Cheers

There is a metal bracket behind the rear wheel that fixes the plastic bumper to the chassis... The bumper end of the bracket is safest to remover the bolts, as when they shear, you can then use a set of mole grips on the exposed thread at the rear, and wind them right through and out the back, where as the ones in the chassis you can not get to the back of.

Is that all that holds the rear bumper on?

I am looking at the right bracket aren't I, on the driverside there is a plastic shield fastened to the bracket that is supposed to protect the filler neck?

I'll take some pics tmoro if you like Jim as I have mine off at the moment, I don't know about a filler shield mine must have it missing, which does not surpise me :doh

There are four larger bolts which fasten the bumper subframe to the chassis, not very hard to get to and mine came out easily, which DID surprise me :lol

The bracket in question is parallel to the rear mud flaps on the rear bumper. Two bolts into the chassis that are prone for shearing.
Easiest way to remove the bumper is to take out the rear lights which gives you better access to the four main bolts into the chassis then undo the cross head screws that hold the plastic to the bracket.
These also can be a pain so I usually crack them with a pair of mole grips then undo them with a pozi head bit in the socket set.
Once out bin them and replace with m6 hex head bolts which makes it easy to remove in the future.

No... there are 4 large bolts, 2 each side through the outside of the chassis. One bolt goes through where the rear towing eye is, the other is about 6" towards the front of the car. These are the main fixings.

There are also 2 of the funny slide on plastic clips at the top of each side bit, no problem when taking it off, but can be buggers to try and line up both sides when putting it back on.

Then there are the bolts I mentioned, 4 bolts each side behind the wheel through the metal plate. You only have to undo 2 of then each side though. Avoid the 2 holding the bracket to the chassis unless you fancy drilling and re-tapping the holes. I had no choice, as I was doing the body lift, and had to raise that bracket up, 2 sheared off, luckily one was the bottom bolt which was no longer needed after the mod.

Hiya Jim, the holes are marked in white, the one on the right is the one i take off, it may be different on yours tho as mine sheared and i just use a nut and bolt now.
The other two holes the bolts go through...

...and into the bumper sub frame.

I leave this bracket on the truck and you can you see the filler guard you was on about.

This is what is left on the bumper, you can see the nut and bolt i use and above left a black rectanglular block.

That tab slides into the block.

Hope these help.
