I've seen others reccomend www.partsgateway.co.uk for parts, not used them my self but heard good things.
Ta, Been looking abit now, shell shocked that the durms stopped being sold so soon, can get then for 1970's ford's still

You could always try nissan, if they're the same as the newer TIIs. Sure someone could tell you if they are.

Surprised they no longer make them, thought manufuctures had to keep parts for so many years after model ceased.

Thanx cameraman, found them under nissan

ah, a happy ending, seriously was already thinking what next as reading down thread...already thinking custom or disc conversion which could start a new debate.

it did seem a bit of a backward step with the t2 from previous 2wd that had 4xdisc and abs. accepted losing abs as cheaper to repair, from off road damage etc. but come on my old rangey from '74 and designed in the late sixties had 'em all round. mind note how long it took lr to fit to the series/defender line... marketing competition forces change eventually.

I've never replaced brake drums on the rear of any vehicle :? :?
The Maverick/Terrano uses the front discs for most of the braking effort, the rear drums contribute very little, so how can you wear out the rear drums so much that they need replacing?
I replaced both rear linings once because of fluid contamination, replaced cylinders, but linings were really ok
Is it just a precaution?
The rear brakes are not that good on a good day, unless (I found) you keep them adjusted to the limit, so that they start to rub with 1-2 clicks on the hand brake.

Yes just doing it as a precaution, I know they don't get as much wear as the front, just thought it would be a good idea at the time.

Now theres a thought!! Thanks.

4 wheel disc brakes are a particular peculiarity of the British car market. We get disks all round on cars that don't have them elsewhere in Europe. It's just a marketing thing. On most hatchbacks the rear brakes do less than 10% of the braking, even on big 4x4s with heavy live axles you'd be pushed to get as much as 25% braking effort out of the rears. Problem is as the rear unloads under braking there isn't enough force acting on the rear tyre for them to do any real braking, if they do, they can lock and cause the car to spin.

One of the reasons Land Rover went over to rear disks on the defender is that they introduced traction control and ABS too, which works best on disk brakes, the RR got them earlier for marketing reasons.

I Know what you mean, just had to get rid of my Jeep Cherokee, that had drums on the back the brakes on her was great.
I just thought as the Maverick needs new pads & the mot's up soon I may as well replace the lot and get it over with.

if they ar`nt scored to badly save your money .they ar`nt very good brakes anyway, but as others have already said keep them clean and well adjusted (manualy that is and thats as good as it gets).
