rear brake drums

Hi everyone, a lovely sunny day today so I thought that I would whip off my brake drums and clean and adjust. Jacked up the terrano took off the wheels buy I didnt slacken the brake cable because when I lifted the cover I couldnt see the adjuster only what looks like a bosch ecu, I couldnt pull off the drum so I used 2 screws to try to push it off. It moved but would not come off, there was a load noise and I can see 2 small springs lying inside and now fluid is leaking from the drum so I guess Iv damaged something but I will only find out when I get the drum off! Hope its sunny tomorrow so that
I can have another try. wish me luck......bri

The fluid I think will be coming from the wheel cylinder but may have been weeping before you started. I found this out when I checked my rear brakes & a new cylinder was £18 But check the fluid has'nt contaminated the brake shoes or you'll have to replace them.

I adjusted my Handbrake cable last week, there is a workshop in the downloads section. All you need is a 10mm spanner, a short one is easier to use. Follow the workshop to loosten the centre console, try and wiggle it over the handbrake lever and then just under the front of the handbrake lever you will see the adjuster at the front of the lever. If you notice there is a rubber cover attached to the lever that fills the slot that the lever moves in the centre console. The adjuster is just behind the bottom of this rubber cover. I'm rather nervous when it comes to doing jobs on the car but I found this easy. Only thing to watch is disconnect the window switches that are clipped to the side of the ecu, the connectors further up behind the switches are a but delicate so if you disconnect near the ecu it removes the risk of stressing them. Don't disconnect the ecu though.

I bet one is an imperial adjustable and the other is a metric adjustable. :lol: :lol: :lol:
