As header says.
Push clutch in and roll no noise.
Got worse on this trip.
Checked oil in diff and clean and full.
No leaks on wheels or diff.
Breaks ok,no wobble on either rear wheel, not lifted wheels up to spin though.
Any thoughts please.

Rear Axle Noise

Do you notice any change in noise between load and no load when driving normally?

e.g. Is noise present on over run when in gear?

Have you done anything to the rear end like fit Polybushes causing the noise to transmit more?

Is you rear seating in position as normal etc.

Could it be a wheelbearings mine made a lot on noise on my Hyundai until I had one replaced at the rear. It got worse with load over a few weeks before it manifested itself as any kind of play you could feel.

You can get quite a lot of noise from a differential before you start getting metal showing up in the oil sludge.

Thanks,no work other than new exhaust and mot.
The noise had been there for a while.
Same under load or not.
I am out touring at the moment but when I get to ashover I can get it on a ramp at where a family member works at chesterfield.
It is going in for a service there.
It is louder when someone else drives it and I am listening.

It's back end and worse when turning left or right, its in the diff what might be causing it,can it be repaired easily and cheap.

Almost certainly your LS diff oil is past its change time, drain it and use Comma LS rear diff oil and all will be well again, Rick

Thanks,it will soon be changed.

2.7td takes just under 3 litres at around £5 a litre.
Make sure you can remove the filler plug BEFORE you remove the drain plug.

When the oil comes out it will be thick, grey and smelly, not clear and golden, like it goes in.
This is normal, as it becomes contaminated with friction material.:thumb

OK, so my 3.0ltr has 85k on the clock and I am wondering if I should as a matter of course, change the lsd oil, as I seem to be getting a certain amount of rear wheel `scuffing` on loose gravelly stuff. Is this implying that there is not enough slipping on the diff/axle due to old oil?
If the 2.7ltr axle capacity is 3lts, what is the 3.0ltr please?

There are two different types of rear diff's used, one is 1.3 Litres (C200) , and the other is 2.8 litres (H233).
The C200 is built in the axle casing with a rear access cover and the H233 is the more conventional style, where the diff is fitted to the front of the axle housing.
Both are LSD.

Ray,
Thank you for that explanation, I crawled under mine today, and see that it is an H233 diff. I will be getting 3Ltrs of comma lsd gear oil on my visit to UK in September, and sort it on my return......:thumb2

Been away with van and had t2 serviced as planned and rear noise gone.
Thanks all.
This trip was 825mls.
It broke my wallet as in the tail end of trip i needed some more fuel, over the amount i took with me and the 20ltrs of doughnut oil i picked up at mablethorpe.i filtered it on the field,it was 35ltr of derv i had to pay for that upset me.
