Hi all,

Have searched for rear ARB discussion threads and all say relatively easy to do. Have done near/side passenger one, bit of hassle with exhaust but nothing too difficult.

HOWEVER, come to do the driver side, and can't get a socket onto the top nut 'cos the fuel pipes are in the way. HELP! Is it just a case of a spanner and forget the torque setting - just do it up tight?

I have a feeling the rust is gonne need me to cut the bush off and the grind or saw through the link itself to get it off.

Would really welcome some advice of those who have had the same issue.

T2 - LWB 1995 (2.7TD)

Thanks in advance:thumbs

Take it off & leave it off :thumbs

As its a LWB you have harder springs than a SWB so the body roll shouldnt be to bad M8 :thumbs

Thanks for that - tis one option but was hoping to leave the ARB in place.....

I guess a ratchet spanner might be the only option...

Yeah, wouldnt worry to much about a tourqe wrench :thumbs

If you do leave it off :nenau Remove it all :thumb2 then it will pass its next MOT ok with it all gone :thumbs

Mine has front & rear removed & pass's no problem as do several on here :thumbs

Ok, cheers, I'll take that on board! For a huge mechano set it don't arf have its awkward bits!

As always, thank you for the advice :)

:lol :thumbs

Wait till ya do a clutch :augie :doh :lol

Youre at it again Adz not putting all the options into a definitive sounding answer :nono

The full answer is if you want to use the vehicle mostly off road removing the ARB isnt a bad idea for a shed load of reasons.

But there are down sides.

If you want to use the vehicle a lot on the road, day to day as most of us do , it would be very silly and possibly dangerous to remove it altogether. Its on for a reason and the clue to one main function of it is in the name ;)

Its also yet another vehicle mod and when admiral want to charge me a £24 premium for fitting a reverse camera Ive no idea how much ARB removal would add

ARB removal is on my policy and also 20 other mods :sly
This topic's been on before but I do declare it's not so bad :naughty
Sure there's a bit more roll, but the wheels dont come off the ground:D
As regards the mot thing ADZ is lucky that his mot guy isnt too picky:augie
Technically if the car was designed to have an arb , then it'll fail if it's not there:doh It depends on the anal retentiveness of the tester:eek:

I'd disagree...
Mine handled better with the rear off as the axle stays level. The body roll is minimal.
Now if it was the front I'd agree (although mine is off)
I'll also point out that i use mine daily & go to Wales every other weekend.
I've put over 20,000 miles in under a year.
A LWB untouched & used daily with only the rear ARB removed would perform with little change to the driver.
My friends dad removed his on looking at mine just out of curiosity & his in his early 60's & said he wished he'd done it years ago. Thats on a 2004 LWB fully loaded. Its never gone off road.

Yup, you said ;) the number of times you get yours checked it needs to be :augie:D
Phnar, regular as plockwork :doh
I do seem to have been placed somewhere near the top of plods local radar:augie
No idea why :lol but insurance is good to go :D

Not telling you whether you like it or not thats your prerogative. Removing any ARB changes the dynamics of a vehicle.........period. If you can get your head round it and live with it fine. But everything on a multi functional veh like a Terrano is a compromise between on road comfort and off road ability. If you take it to one end of the spectrum you lose out on the other. I seem to recall that bloke who drowned his kids in his shed of a LR had many contributory factors but they inc inadequate ARB set up.

Thing is my mate who was an underwriter tells me is the risk they perceive is the deterioration of on road handling (change in roll & pitch as well as under steer & over steer) If they decide to take you on they cant put preventative measures in place so they either exclude or as that cant be done arb wise, load the premium.

Just out of interest, what did your ins company say about it , I presume you're with a specialist one ?

Pete is also bang on about the MOTer.......... he was actually inadvertently negligent.

Because like boy racers / cruisers, what ever ya wanna call em... we're an easy target although its always a small majority that wrecks it for everybody else

I'm no angel but as far as my vehicles go, I'm always Taxed, Insured & MOT'd as i've always liked driving & now its my living too.

Easier to edit yours to respond :thumbs

Just to point out to any new members, we're not arguing, just covering all bases & i will apologies as i can never put words to text :doh

No problems ;)

I think it was flux who quoted me a decent premium when I was on the T2 modifying program.

Uninsured drivers are my pet hate. Many dont even realise they are

Adrian Flux is good on the modified scene from bikes to cars & quads to 4x4's :bow

People also dont realise that sometimes, well most of the time, declaring the mods can bring your insurance down :D It did on me Mav as for a start there is nothing inside to pinch :lol

I HATE UNINSURED DRIVERS

BUT

I do feel sorry for a very small % who have 1 monthly instalment default due to wages not going in etc & the insurance company stops it

I always pay mine in full :thumbs

Ok, ok, calm down all!! I didn't realise i would start WW3!!!!!

All I wanted was to know about fixing the ARB drop link with fuel pipes in the way - unable to get socket onto nut let alone torque wrench!!!

I understand the serious off-road benefit of not having it (I think!!), but mine is mostly used for on-road, and boat trailoring and launching etc, so I'm on the basis of I'd rather have it in place. My problem is that I can't get the socket on, so I'm guessing spanner is the only option (though I'm not sure about the bracket it sits in giving much turning space).

So, and please not wanting to create any annoyance or any thing  was just hoping someone who has had the same issue may have words of wisdom to share...

Fab forum, don't want to be the cause of mass mis-understandings :surrender

Well as its only gonna be a case of a few bolts :augie
Try it with 1 side unbolted :thumbs
If you don't notice much difference :nenau take it off :thumbs

As for doing that bloody bolt up, just try & get a spanner or ratchet spanner in there :thumbs

WW3 :lol that was nothing to some disputes we have :lol :lol :lol :augie

Its just different opinions :thumbs

We're all a big screwed up happy family on here :wasntme :homer :stupid :grouphug

Rear ARB update

Thanks to all who fed back on this :thumb2

Rear ARB links now installed :clap

As typical, was dry when I went out, then the rain came, then the thunder!! Had to saw off the old one just under the top mounting (looks like previous efforts to replace by an other had rounded the nut) and then dropped the hot hacksaw on my arm :banghead

Rounded head spanner and brute force did the top nut.

O the joys of DIY mechanisc!!!

Well at least its done! :)

Thanks again for the comments. Now, what's the next job... curry + :beer
