ok , ive sat down , calmed down , had a few cups of coffee and a sausage butty , and ive looked at realistic options for sally .

option 1 ... we scrap her or dismantle her , and use any funds created by that to aquire a vehicle .. ok i realise that its not going to be a perfect condition vehicle for that price , but it is a vehicle

option 2 ..garage to inspect the car and we decide what to do based on the report ..... problem with this option is its gonna cost , they arent going to examine it for nothing .

...
option 3 ....aquire a replacement engine ....again , this is going to cost , yes the place we got the gearbox from has the engine too , but besides the purchase cost , there is courier costs , removal , and fitting (expensive )

option 4 . aquire replacement engine and we fit it ourselves ...... again major expense in purchasing engine , courier costs etc , also where do we store the car / do the work ?

and finally ......

option 5 ...... i set fire to it and look if my insurance covers " accidental fire damage "

well, i'm only just up, with coffee and sausage butty due. But...

worth investigating, but only worth doing if we have a more or less immediate demand for parts totalling something decent to buy a car...

option 2 ..garage to inspect the car and we decide what to do based on the report ..... problem with this option is its gonna cost , they arent going to examine it for nothing .

we have i think £140 something left in the pot, either that money goes on the inspection (and very possibly fix) or it goes towards new car. £140 is a lot of money towards a cheap car.

£850 sir, is what they said isnt it? or thereabouts? Addmittedly, that would probably solve the problem, but its not without risks.

option 4 . aquire replacement engine and we fit it ourselves ...... again major expense in purchasing engine , courier costs etc , also where do we store the car / do the work ?

we'd then need the engine hoist, some strong men and lots of time, I wouldnt know where to begin. Storage isnt too much of a problem. If someone came along and said yep, buy the engine i know how to fit it, then you can do it on my drive, otherwise too risky.

and finally ......

option 5 ...... i set fire to it and look if my insurance covers " accidental fire damage "

:lol

Its a no brainer. Only an absolute fool would do anything but option 2 to start with. Its common sense or if you want to be formal an essential part of problem solving analysis.

Anything else is speculative knee jerk stupidity if 2 hasnt been done :nenau

i think I totally agree though, as i've said before. it aint gonna cost hundred to have an inspection. the guy needs to drive it for 10 mins, 30 mins tops, then diagnose it.i cant imagine the cost of a diagnosis and results, costing more than we have in the pot.!!

and as we were discussing law t'other day. If the car goes up in flames the mens rea is now present so it looks like 5 isnt a viable option :augie :lol

i should have been a policeman ... i was always helping them with their enquiries when i was younger :augie

sally

I would certainly get the car inspected and consider a repair

If you consider the cost of an engine and fitting say £800

WTF pice of junk would you buy for that kind of money, it would be a short term quick fix not a long term solution. ie right size and height to meet your needs and auto to boot.... good luck

Briggie I know how you feel

I poured to what equates to about 5K into a discovery (2k on a new LPG conversion but mrs p loved it) that was not in reality worth 1k then got the raving hump and gave it away, true to form it broke down again (another £3oo and no car for a week) my mate promptly sold it, no comebacks from new owner so i assume all ok, he was honest about the cars issues.
Still payiong for the piece of junk

paulp

Get em' to look into repair costs , get a price , the powers that be will decide if we have a wip round , f-it , we might as well fix it again , £10 here and there to sort it out is not a major issue for most of us.

I didnt fork out for the gearbox but i have no probs in donating for an engine.

Yep, we don't really want to follow it up with the actus reus now, do we? ;)

i know one of those in pudsey :lol

If it's the nobber that sold you Sally, I would do him with one of your Leyllandiis. From his descriptions of his vehicles, he is so full of crap that a good pull through would serve a purpose. :D

anyway back on topic .....

sheila ( our lass ) has put her tuppence in.....

she says i have to ask myself if im totally happy with the car

also if it was fixed would i truely trust it

she said she will back any decision i make or that of the clubs

the wedding she says can wait after all weve been engaged 15 years , another few wont make any difference :lol
