hi all, started up the patrol this morning and noticed a loudish rattle coming from the front of the engine drove it for a while no smoke or loss of revs still ratles on tick over any ideas from all you saviours cheers :? :?

Does it sound like a metalic rattle?

Off the top of my head it could be any of the bearings on the alternator, power stearing, AC comp idler (adjuster) or the water pump

It could be the Cambelt tensioner bearing or the belt hitting the cover.

Is the crank pulley bolt tight?

thanks for the reply yes it sounds a bit metalic like something has come loose like i said it seemed to drive ok revs ok but i took it home just in case not really mechanically minded but was willing to give it a go if i could sus out where it was coming from but the harder i listen the harder it is to find it anyone know of a good patrol mechanic or garage in essex im not far from lakeside cheers all :? :?

You could try taking fan belts off and checking to see if noise goes away.

Don't drive with them off just run it to see if noise goes away.

If it doesn't go away with the belts off its either the water pump or one of the belt tensioners for the cambelt behind the cover 8O

When was the cambelt changed and how many miles ago???????

let us know what you decide to do
