hi mate , assuming you mean auto engage hubs ( if not i will go into the gearbox later ) ..... there is a workshop download for the hubs .

as for gearbox , its very very important to check the atf fluid , the dipstick for the atf fluid is on the same side of the engine bay as the engine dipstick , but nearer the bulkhead and lower down ( its a pig to find if you dont know its there )

just a few things for you to be going on with for now , both items are covered by a workshop download :thumb2

my auto only changes from 4wd to 2wd if in neutral . it might change in gear but never forced the issue .

i have always put my gear selector in neutral before changing from 2wd to 4wd and vice versa ..... never had any problems , lovely smooth change .. never tried it without putting it in neutral first . although once the gear selector is in neutral i leave the engine running when i select 2wd or 4wd ..... hope that makes sense

manuals change in gear , even changes while driving. but the auto dont seem to like it . that i have only tried in neutral.

but the r3m terrano auto has electronic switch to engage 4wd so flick the switch and your in 4wd. very nice . and you can do that in drive or anything

try changing in neutral, if not check your transmission fluid and your hubs:thumbs

Am i correct in dont select 4 wheel drive whilst on tarmac. as this will cause wind up,then difficult to get out of 4 wheel drive.and buggers transferbox.

i cant remember who told me , but , i was told to always select neutral before moving the transfer lever , and to reverse a little bit after changing from 4wd to 2wd , and so far ive never had any probs ..... changing the lsd oil has made a heck of a difference though :thumb2

cheers. seems ok at moment tried neutral from the off . it works ok in park does what it shud. fingers crossed,

4wd low on solid ground like tarmac is a no no,will grind to halt in no time!

Just to clarify, I assume you're just talking here about movement of the 4WD selector lever (which for the OPs benefit doesn't completely deselect 4WD, you need to reverse and have the 4WD light go out for that)?

Not sure I'm aware the auto does that but as its raining I'm not going outside to check...!
