as the title suggests, and im not too worried at all for a change, i get a puff of smoke at startup.

before this morning, i had noticed it was the usual sooty black , that doesnt keep going when i press the pedal, just a single puff!

anyway, this morning, me and Heidi had to swap cars so she could go to town in the Maverick. when she started the car, there was a puff of smoke, but it was more grey than black, then when she revved it to move off, more dark grey/black. after that nowt as usual.

any suggestions?

i have new fuel filter, air filter, no1 injector, CKP sensor, tail pipe and ive blocked off the solenoid end of the egr pipe, thiose are all the things i think can affect the colour of smoke.

i am due to do an oil change though....

glow plugs might be a idea too mate

smoke puffs

Is there any smoke when its at working temperature ? If not I would not worry about it !

A lot of cars be they petrol or diesel will give out a little blue or grey smoke as they burn off oil that has run past the valve guides whilst the vehicle has been stood for a while.

Likewise if you have been driving at a steady pace or especially downhill on the overun you get a quick burst of smoke from the back as you floor it again this is the oil that has been drawn past the piston oil control rings etc.

All these events are worse on older vehicles due to general wear & tear plus hardening of valve stem seals etc.

last i checked, when warm, again all i get is a puff of smoke, black, when i rev it a bit, and it clears...so its almost like its apuff of smoke after its idled a minute then nothing after that...

sounds normal, as stated probably burning oil that has run down valve stem, nothing to worry about mate, you must stop worrying clivvy, you will end up with an ulcer mate. :thumb2:doh
