ok. so wheres the easyest place to pic up a live feed for my relays to come on only with the engin running

was using that for CB.
so dont want to over do one bit.

some one said the heater.. as its just a low power feed for relays, one relay for each 12v socket in the boot.

one switch, double pole jobbie

If you are just using it to trigger the relay with the power proper being drawn direct from the battery then the cig lighter will be fine. CB will draw less the 1/2 amp, relays will be next to nothing, cig lighter is a 20amp supply, so you'll be fine.

ok cool. as its easyer to get too..

tar

Yes - you might want to put an overide switch in too so you can leave stuff powered up in the boot when you switch off - thinking cool box type things etc or laptop charger, that you might want to leave on.

i could just have them on all the time i guess. as they are switched..

if you are going to leave items switched on while engine is turned off, things like cool boxes will flatten the battery very quick, mate of mine left his cool box on while having a cup of tea in services, when he came out motor would'nt start flat battery, very nice man in a bright orange van came out and got him going. :doh

mmm thats true.. second batty calling there i think., at a later date.

Thats true and I meant to add a proviso to my initial post to that affect however, I suspect your mates battery was already on its way out if it went flat to that extent in the time needed for a cup of tea.

Ah,where would you be without the Mecanno leftovers Zippy?:D

thats one of the little Zippys, she let me have some.. nuts and bolds too, also her nail varnish to shop them coming undone

I like the fuse holder Zippy. Do the lighter lights come on with the side lights. I cut the elements out of mine and glued a tap washer in place to stop shorts. Mine are in the brake light inspection panel so I was worried kids would play.

thats from www.vehicleproducts.co.uk good site, but like every thing need to keep on eye on prices. yep with side lights. did that bit first. now doing relay and power bit. As i know where the power calbles are goin to run. fuse and relay for each. that way if one fuse pops i dont lose both sockets..

kits will play where ever thay are.. but i can will have a switch so they are safe.. well will not work.

next bit tomorrow..

fit the power line and fuse in i hope..

did a bit more today.

still not conected the to the batery yet.

i always work backwards so nothing is live.

one pics and some video.. the bigest little Zippy took the videos.

will put on photobucket tomorrow

I was just going to say, very neat...very meccano :thumb2

In all seriousness triggering an ignition switched supply is easy peasy.

Use virtually any ignition switched positive, back of the radio is usually a good one and run it to the relay coil. Then just make up a live fused feed direct from the battery and put it straight throught the relay as the switch.

As the radio comes on with the accessories click on the ignition you dont need the engine running so its your call what stage you want to use it at :thumb2

Done that on many vehicles for many systems and not had any problems at all :D
