I'm new here and not that much of a mechanic. I have recently bought a V reg Terrano II 2.7 Diesel. Just puting it through an MOT at a local garage and there's quite a bit of corrosion. They're going to do the necessary to get it through the MOT but there's going to be some advisories about corrosion. I also noticed I can see corrosion when I lift the back seat (should of had a better look when I bought it!).

One thing I know is corroded and needs replacing is the power steering hoses at the front. There's a slow leak from the pipes at the front of the car. So far I've just kept topping it up. I asked them to quote for fixing this and the part is around £170 but thats from Nissan. I was thinking of seeing if I can get something from a breakers or as the garage suggested may be able to go to a place and get replacement rubber pipes fitted that won't corrde. I know there's also corrosion to the break pipes but that this is just an advisory at the moment!

My thoughts are just run it for another year and see what its like when the next MOT is due, or see if I can get some bits replaced now and maybe get it treated to see if I can stem some of the corrosion.

Its only used as a second car for towing a horsebox and for muddy trips to the horse in the winter! But I must admit I love driving it! :)

You can fix the corroded pipe easily and cheaply using hydraulic hose and jubilee clips.....about a fiver from the right place.
