Dead easy just find someone local to do it.Would give them rough up first 80 grit orbital sander to get good key

do not think I would want to ruin the SS finish, you may want shiny SS at some time in the future, if you just clean them off chemically ie de grease them and wash with sugar soap and rinse well then any spray paint will stick and when you scrape it (which you will) just spray over the scrape, easy, Rick

I agree with Rick.... I looked into powder coating, when I wanted to sort out some rusty steel wheels, but once you start reading about it, it is a nightmare... If it does not take at any point, it then just acts as a moisture trap, which on stainless is not such a problem, but on normal steel encourages the rust... In the winter, when it freezes, it becomes brittle... The more I read about it, the worse it was...

a bit of acid etch primer, and a good coat of paint, and it is easy to touch up in the future.

thanks for replies guys. good point about the painting over. think i may just do that. putting some non slip on the platform bit then satin black the tube seems a good idea. they just seem too shiny for me! cheers for the ideas, mike.

I run a powder coating plant so know what your saying.the only way to re paint rusty steel in any type of paint or powder is to have them shotblasted first.
Powder coating only goes brittle if is under cured or the wrong type of powder is used for the conditions it will be in.
If done right powder can last years before any problems with corrosion arise.
It's all down to the prep work with any paint finish.

Makes sense... the problem with the steel wheels is the grove where the dish is welded into the rim, there is no way to get into there sufficiently to get rid of all the rust that is deep down, even with shot blasting... so after a few months, the rust gets back, and then lifts the coating...

Interesting about the wrong type/under cured, but the problem is, once you have found it out, it's usually too late to take it back, and almost impossible to prove that you did not do something to it, so then you are left with either having it done again, and spending out all that money, or putting up with a bad job... Shame not all the powder coaters know their stuff like you do, and there is no way for a novice to know how to pick the gooduns from the cowboys.
