Kind of similar problem to the last post but there is no mil light or steady red light so perhaps not.

98’ T2 TDI

Are there issues with the immobiliser following a flat battery?

I inadvertently knocked the switch for one of the map reading lamps and didn’t notice until I went to start after 2 ½ days. Result a 90% flat battery.

I tried jump leads but it took several minutes running the donor vehicle before I could get the Terrano to turn over fast enough and then, when it did, there was no sign of the engine starting after several attempts.

I had to abandon the attempt as time was a factor so I have left the battery on charge for the day but, as sod’s law would have it, today is the day the electricity company has chosen to switch off the local grid to do upgrade work so it may be another 36 hours before I can try again.

I will be disconnecting those darn lights or possible wiring them though the ignition. Second time its happened but I had no trouble starting with jump leads last time although the battery wasn’t quite so flat.

Now it gets odd and a little bit of a concern.
Battery on charge overnight, engine now turns over freely but still no start.
Immob light on dash goes out with the key in and ign on - correct.
Mil light goes out when the engine in turning over - correct.
But still no start.
Check heaters are getting power - yes.
Check fuel is reaching pump - yes.
Put a portable battery booster pack, the type with a small gell battery, as well as the charger on the battery and try again. This time the door locks operate, or at least there is an audible click from the doors, and the engine starts just like it usually does, after about one rev. All seems normal :clap
I'm very glad it starts but concerned about what went on
Now to disconnect those damn map lights :thumbs

the doors make the lock sound after a battery has been reconnected sounds to me like there wasn't enough power so maybe a duff battery

You could well be right, the battery is less than 12 months old and has shown no hint of trouble up to this point but is of unknown quality.
I've just discovered that the smart charger I have is not really delivering the voltage either so I am hoping that a bit a a run and a new charger will solve the problem.
