There are some interesting arguments in the replies below the article.

In some professions, particularly teaching or medical professions, if only an alligation is made against them, they are suspended from duties immediately, and can only return when their name is cleared.

When there has been an accident, and somebody has been killed or injured, regardless of fault or blame at this time, then maybe all parties should be suspended from their task ie driving.

BUT, legally until blame has been clearly established and a person proven guilty the law sees them as innocent, but isn't this what we have been fighting for, unlike the teacher or medical staff above.

Maybe the case should go immediately to a magistrate to establish if there is a risk of further injury from the driver. Medical experts will have to judge the case too. The police alone cannot make this judgement.

There will be cases of wrong judgement, and people will then be looking for compensation.

If a person has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving, then isn't this enough to hold them until the case comes to court...
NO. not by the current law.

I know I want to see this type of driver off the road, but this way, may not get the preferred outcome.

Maybe compulsory re-testing following a certain age, or after so many accidents or gaining so many points will be the way to go.

Even following a driver for 10 minutes through town is enough for me to make my judgement on them. So a short re-test will be adequate in most cases.

Changing lanes without indicating or looking, stopping on brows of hills, turning left or right without indicating, which doesn't help pedestrians.
I often tell drivers when they try to run me over.... WHY did you change your mind from going straight on, and then turn left into me...! They then reply with hand signals.... pity they didn't use them in the first place.
