hi guys, is there any way of extending the positive lead that goes to the battery? mine has seen better days, and the actual lead going to the battery is about half the size it should be! HELP!

Yes cut it at a convenient point, get a new terminal on a short bit of battery cable, scrounge a 15mm copper tube connector from a plumber, bare the two ends flux them up and push them into the connector crimp to hold them in place and solder them up, insulate, job done, Rick

where is best place to get battery cable from? Does it have to be a certain rating? also whats best connector to get? just looked on ebay and there is loads, im confused! (doesnt take much) :doh

well I scrap motors so loads to choose from, I would go down to your local scrappy and select a good clean clamp and wire from any motor as long as it is the pos terminal, preferably from a deisel or larger petrol motor, RicK

Pop along to any boat chandlery, plenty on the Kennet and Avon canal, they sell heavy duty cable, with battery terminals, they should also sell the correct size ring crimps.
Some might even crimp them all. Other than that, with a plumbers blow torch, some solder and some flux, you can terminate your own. I did all mine on my boat. I used 25mm2 cable, but you will need more than that for a 2.7td or tdi
possibly 35mm2 or 50mm2.

dam you are like a mechanical encyclopedia, I have been pondering off n on wondering how best to do this. :thumbs

I'd just replace it all as joins can cause resistance, I would just get some welding cable & the thicker than what's fitted if it's the cable from the alternator

x2 on that, that's what I did on the Maverick, quite fiddly though but worth it :D

On the subject of Alternators, that reminds me, I need to ask a question about mine
