My 2.7 Terrano (99 plate) seems to have real performance problems meaning I lose speed going up hills even in 4th gear and when towing the caravan it's not unusual to be forced to engage 3rd to keep moving. Before anyone asks I live in Norolk so the hills I'm talking about are barely undulations in the road.

I'm waiting for a new maf sensor to arrive as that would seem the obvious answer but I was also wondering whether the accelrator position sensor could be the cause as sometimes I've got my foot flat to the floor and it's not offering any pull where other times it's barely half way and the thing is charging along.

Hi Dee4life,
Well like you say it is probably the maf sensor, when I had a LHD out in Spain I had similar problems but I didn't know about this club then I took it to a Nissan dealer 5mins later it was like a Ferrari  another thing that could help is to change the fuel filter add some injector cleaner and change the air filter I find these help as well but I strongly suspect like you it's the maf sensor.

Good luck

Sounds like same symptoms as I once had--cause was dirty MAF sensor . Cleaned mine with meths on small soft brush and it worked wonders.
I once had simular problem caused by accelerator sender. However, this gave a warning on the engine management light, the MAF problem didn' t show a warning.
Squirted silicon lubricant around sender and (touch wood) all has been well since ---about 1500miles.

Cheers for the replies - Haven't changed the diesel filter as I've only had the car 3 months and it was dealer serviced before I got it. Not that that means much I know. If there was a problem with the filter would it be intermitent? There are no warning lights which is why i suspected the maf
