well i think i have got the bug after my last adventure out and am now making plans ready for the next outing just a couple of decisions to make

1. risk damaging the pathy or buy a toy to go off roading in

2. buy a T2 or a defender 90

choice choices choices its like wanting chocolate but are faced with 20 different makes

t2 swb, spend little money to get an awesome offroader! good tyres, raise torsion bars on front and could still beat a highly modded 90!

i'd get a SWB t2, Cheap to buy and are very capable.

then if you knock it a bit it won't matter. ;)

if you knock a 90 a lot it wont matter.. a beat up t2 in the eyes of most will be a pile of shit on the other hand you see a beat up 90 even hand painted they will be poeple leaning against the fence saying to each other " thats a right motor that" and they never seem to be worth less than £1500 so how much can you lose? also cheeper parts on the 90

But the only parts you need to beat a 90 is a pair of +2" springs :lol
Some proper tidy off road tyres and your done :D
Admittedly the 90 has way more potential and the worlds biggest choice of modding parts but the T2 will give you more ability for your quids easily:thumbs

Yes they may go for alot even beat up but they are expensive in the first place.

Who cares what others think, as long as you have fun thats the main thing.

You can get some bargains on the older non tdi mav/t2. My mate got one for £150. Pete has seen it, Would make the perfect weekend warrior.

Yep I got one for that money, just waiting for Swifty to sort the clutch, Oh and I have a nice winch to fit as well, Rick

this seems to be the problem go for a defender90 and theres boat loads of mods out there

but the T2 doesnt have many true mods available its more a case of making thing fit

Yes BUT you've got a head start with a T2 as it's got LSD :D
You just need to get some bigger tyres on, hence the springs or body lift. You'll easily get a £500 good 90 beater in a T2
OR you need to be at 2000 or so to get a rust free 90 in standard ex farmer spec:thumbs

Comes down to your budget :thumbs

Cash no object  90

Best all rounder & cheap  Terrano :thumbs

sure theres boatloads of mods....but what ones do you need?

I've got a stripped out t2 swb body shell sitting on my drive lol:doh

Got to ask yourself how much you are going to use it and how much you want to spend. Be realistic then work out a budget. I run three cars so it can may a big difference. Extra road tax , insurance and MOT.

For mud plugging you could go the Series Landrover route.. Tax exempt, cheap insurance (classic / collectors) . MOT - well get a good one to start with and there is little to fix. They are however addictive and also an aquired taste.. but you'll definately experience a whole new world of skinned knuckles, oil smells (EP90)

The other side of the coin I guess is the T2.. may cost more to run re insurance and tax but you should get a cheap and nasty one to abuse and have lots of fun in comfort and warmth.

Alternatively use what you have carefully and enjoy it :thumbs

If youre fancying a green oval, hang on until its replacement comes onto the s/h market :thumb2

i had exactly the same problem... and I solved it by buying a T2, KL71's tyres, springs and 2" lift shocks. Probably spent a bit more than I should have, but its an aweosme offroader.

As standard it has the same clearance as my Patrol.

Went to CORE the other day and had a blast.

Can't fault the T2
