Ok, just a quick one,

I normaly run with pure cooking oil, but as it got colder started to mix in some diesel as starting up in the mornings was getting to be a problem. Now its getting really cold i swapped over to 100% diesel but i see some use petrol to thin down the oil, but at what mix and is there a danger of the petrol seperating and going neat into the engine? :nenau

Every one has there own blend i use about 5% petrol to veg mix never had a problem yet

I have found that GM soya veg oil does not mix well with petrol and thickens below 5 degrees C. So when the last of mine has gone I will use rapseed, till March, which stays thin for longer and thins with petrol at about 5% .
I always use some Derv in with it for lubriation. Be nice to your pump. David.

I use up to 20% petrol, but my glow plugs are also a bit dud I think, took an age to get it running this morning followed by a fantastic white smoke cloud when it finally fired up!

Generally at 20% petrol, veg oil get to be about the same viscosity as pump diesel, but it does depend on the type of oil used. Soya does seem to be the worst with rape being a lot better.

Also, there's merit in mixing the petrol into the oil a day before you add it as petrol will strip out any impurity from the oil including lacquers. I don't tend to on clean new oil, but I always do when it's filtered WVO.

Thanks guys.

i will look at adding a little then, as it really starting to drop colder now. Will also put the diesel in to be kind to the pump as David sugests.

I'm probably going to be proved totally incorrect here, but I thought that veg oil was as, if not more, lubricating than diesel?
