How hard is it to convert a petrol vehicle to diesel? Just wondering, if I keep my Hyundai, I might see if I could put a diesel engine in....why? Well I hate petrol engines, to refined and complicated, plus I know diesel engines inside out. Also, I could run it on veggie oil:naughty. I've got a few engines that might fit, a Peugeot 1.9 for instance. Don't care if its slower, I just like diesel......think that's why I hate the Hyundai, because with it being a petrol

Why not put all your knowledge and energies into one vehicle? Seems you have a concentration problem and keep jumping from one project to another and not finishing any of them? Passing your test would be a huge start!!!

people over react. Why is this? I am curious, these are not projects, a project is somthing that's already been started, I havnt started this, I'm just wanting advice on somthing that's crossed my mind. Might do it, might not, I'm still doing the driving stuff but its taking my ages as I can only afford 1 lesson a week;)

Why dont you bolt the hyundai body shell to your terrano chassis:thumbs

if the diesel has an ecu then far too much work in my opinion, you would need transpose the entire wiring loom over, but of course it can be done, just need to work out if it worth the effort, Rick

Indeed, I've just got off the phone from my mate who's Done a few conversions and he says its pointless, says it'll be easier and cheaper for my to buy a diesel powered car, like a Peugeot 205 1.9. Ahh well, just a thought:)

so if worse came to worst and i can not get a van, i'll get a diesel car instead, but will try my hardest to get me a van :D

he who never gave it a thought, probably never tried, many years ago I built a heavy recovery truck, the style you see many of today, like a giant fork lift truck that lifts under the stricken trucks font axle, all out of odd stuff kicking about the yard and workshop, the only items purchased were the heavy 9" box section that made the main frame, still have the drawings, and some pics some place, Rick

i like the sound of that Rick :thumb2

Nothing to it. Just unbolt the old petrol engine and bolt in the new diesel. Fill the tank with diesel and drive off.
Modern cars are all designed to have interchangeable engines, so the engine mounts, exhaust, throttle, fuel pipes, filter head, glowplug wiring, relays, ignition key switch, warning lights in dash, suspension and all other little bits and pieces are already there some just tucked away under little covers. Even the battery will be the same specification. Just tell dvla or insurance about the changes and they will say, that's fine because they see so many done. :D

Well that would not work with the T2 wiring loom completely different as is the ECU, and many sensors, plus petrol has pump in tank, obviously can be done but at what cost? Rick

nothing wrong with asking questions ryan , its how we learn :thumb2 , no matter how stupid they might appear to some .

Hmmm, might look into it then, its just if I can't afford a van at this point in time, I might look towards getting a diesel vehicle or making one. Problem is, the Hyundai only came with a Crap 1.0 EFI, never made a diesel model. But I know what you're saying, my mate had a 205 with a blown heat gasket, this was a petrol, but he had a identical rotten 205 diesel and he done a engine swap, alerted the dvla and off he went, even the gearbox was the same

I think he was joking :nenau
