Hi guys having run nothing but 2.7tdi's I've been tempted by 3.0litres which seem a reasonable engine. What about the 2.4 petrol, has anyone got much experience of these for a daily runner.

Cheers

Yes Jim I ran 2.4i's for a couple of years, good side is they tow better at low revs than the TD or TDi, in other words pulling away is lots easier due to the long stroke engine, but it tapers off quite quickly, fuel is cheaper and will be I think even more so in the future, can't say that overall there is much more to commend the 2.4, down side is they are heavy on fuel, 21 average for me around town (full load of kit) as much as 27 on a run, overall I would go for the 3, Rick

Petrol Versions

A mate round the corner from me bought a used one about 10 years ago for his wife (X Reg). It is only used for short journey work pulling a horse box a couple of times a year. Its been a good workhorse but the front wings have now rotted badly so he is getting rid when the current MoT expires. It's been cheap motoring for him even though they are not very economical. When you factor in depreciation costs, servicing etc its been good value for them.

Only thing I remember him mentioning was the water pump was a pain to replace not long after he bought it.
