Hi guys can you help please?
My petrol mav. has been running rough for a while which I thought was due to a leaking fuel pipe. I've fixed that but its made no difference!
Is there some common fault I could look into or perhaps a top five things to check?
MPG has also gone up the wall recently too (could do without that at the mo!)
Cheers

What state are your plugs, leads dizzy cap & rotor :?: I think there is a fuel filter on the petrol engines & wondering if that could do with replacing

The plugs and dizzy were ok a couple of months back when I got it but not checked plugs yet. Will be on their case tmorrow though. I noticed the fuel filter today while under the beastie. Do you know if its a cleanable thing or buy a new one job?

Hi guys I still need help I'm afraid.
Just put new spark plugs in (the old ones were fine ), new fuel filter and dizzy. Car still runs like a pig!
It wont tick over without a bit of throttle, it cuts out or splutters on close throttle down hill for example. It will go ok when given loads of welly though!
Any ideas?
Cheers Pete

MAF sensor or lambda sensor or blocked cat.

Maf sensor can be cleaned it bolts into the side of the throttle body, remove carefully, clean with carb cleaner and replace.

Lambda will probably need a garage to diagnose, likewise cat.

I looked at a 2.4 petrol once, before I bought my old 2.7tdi, and that was running badly, my uncle-a mechanic (used to work for ford) said that it had problem with the lambda sensor or MAF sensor, and that both are common fault on 2.4's so may be worth looking in to them, Good Luck
