Hi guys can anyone tell me if the 2.4 petrol maverick/terrano engine was fitted to any other cars? My poor 2.4 has been unwell for some time so I'd like to beef things up a bit. Ideally keeping the exist gearbox.
I thought there may be a car derivative that may have a better spec and better exhaust manifold etc.
Cheers

Nissan Silvia had a related 16 valve engine but I beleive its not got quite the same block and things don't mount straight up.

Hi HB do you know if the gear box mates up?
As the rest could be "madetofit" with my hammer!

Don't know for certain but have read some where that it does, theres a forum dedicated to the KA24 engine somewhere, a fair few people have turbo charged them too in Silvias and other Nissan S series ie S12, S13 etc.

Thought about putting a 16v in myself but I imagine there'll be a lot of work to get it right from what I found out and the electrics will be a bit tricky, have wondere about getting another 12v unit and doing a bit of light headwork, get it skimmed to raise the compression somewhat (its fairly low about 8.5:1 IIRC) and go over to an aftermarket ECU, Megasquirt or similar to get it set up right, but at the end of the day it would be a lot of money for negligible gain, probably better to bite the bullet and get a 2.7Tdi or better still a 3.0tdi in a newer body.

I agree but was hoping to find another source for something that would fit without TOO much bother. Often found in the past something else that works from another car and then find a cheap one on ebay for example then do the spanners.
I'm not well up on Nissan and seem to be struggling on this one.
What about nitros?

NO2 is for drag strips, no use anywhere else really a bit too all or nothing and runs out really quick even wit a big (expensive) bottle.

A superchager would suit a 4x4 well, more cars using em these days, easier to instal than a turbocharger too, would still need a whole new map though which probably means aftermarket ecu again, unless the boost was kept real low, in which case why bother.

mmmm "Supercharger" now I like that idea.
I'll be off to internet search land right now.
Cheers

Have you thought about the Vauxhall Senator, Toyota Supra and any big Volvo as donors? Have no idea if these are easy swaps but these cars go for peanuts these days.

Thanks Matt, I'm not proud what goes in just so long as the gearbox(4 x4)end of things can be done.
I've had loads of luck on ebay for all sorts of stuff mainly by being patient. So its the basic engine to box I could do with help. Perhaps I could get an adaptor plate made up if anyone knows of a same splined engine!
Cheers

Splines aren't usually a problem you just have to get a different driven plate for the clutch, input shaft lengths can be more tricky as the adaptor plate can mean the shaft ends up unsupported at the engine end. Also spigot bearing sizes.

Curses, just been looking at some proper cheap volvo engines!
Me thinks I'll have to get the box out too and see what everything looks like in there, and then see what engines are about.
I do want to stay on petrol though as I'm going LPG.

Have you worked out where you're going to put the tank?

Also hope you're doin it yourself on the cheap as theres no guarentee the low duty/tax starus will last much longer.

Yep, putting biggest tank I can where the petrol tank is now and then making up a small petrol tank to fit underneath too.I've seen a race tanks on the bay in the past, so hope to find another to save making one up from scratch.
I've got some 2" blocks made up to lift the body which as you know HB gives a bit more room for the tank.
All hinges around those springs of yours and a suitable engine.
Just a little to do in the adverts!
