For those that maybe interested I have today stripped and rebuilt my spare transfer box which now is fixed in low ratio, but with the ability to select 2 or 4 wheel drive as per normal forward/back of the lever, the lever does nothing more, once the box was stripped it was an easy fix just remove the interlock plunger and replace the spring on the low/high check ball and replace it with a solid rod with the selector in low = low/high selector cannot move from low and 2/4 works just as before, ideal for a permanent off road motor as I can now have low in 2 wheel, Rick

So, could you make it so you could have all 4, e.g, 2 and 4 High and low?

sounds cool, don't suppose you took pics did you?

the reason behind it is at the sites I play at all too often at the top of a steep incline you need to make a sharp turn, in 4 wheel with locked front diff this can be difficult, and I have not been able to go up in high as not enough power, and mostly the terrain only needs 2 wheel, also in high never get out of first, Rick

no that would not be so easy as you would have to reintroduce the interlock plunger and that makes it back to square one, Rick

I intended to but it turned into a rush job as I am having the box fitted tomorrow together with the torsion bar, but it really is so straight forward aside from the fact that all three sections of the housing have to come apart, Rick

think I did see it but forgot, just had a peek now, its not bad not quite as heavy as I was expecting but good enough, my road going box has had a whine since I bought it nearly 2 years ago, done loads of heavy towing with it and not got any worse, but got a spare box just in case, in fact got 2, Rick

Some time ago when I took a US 4x4 mag Fourwheeler on a reglalr basis
there were kits to enable part time boxes to operate in any combination
of 2 or 4 wd, hi or lo. Called twin stick conversions.

Handy for those needing to shunt heavy trailers on hard ground too.

Nice idea, but on the T2 it will not work as we only have one selector shaft, inside it converts to a rocking arrangement and the interlock plunger will only allow the 2 to 4 selector to operate, once in 4 wheel the, the low to high is the only one that can move, if you simply remove the interlock you will have no control of what is selected due to the rocker which will operate on a random basis and in fact can go too far and the rocker can fall out, then you have a busted box, Rick

cheers Rick, been seeking that confirmation for a while.

So looks like only way to get 2lo on a normal truck is manual front
hubs unlocked and truck in 4lo?

That would seem the most sensible and cheapest option, whilst it is probably feasible to modify the box for two levers I think the layout would make it both expensive and an engineering challenge, Rick
