I agree if you must gamble buy a few premium bonds at least you are only losing the interest you should have earned.

With base rate at 0.5% that not much and your original stake is safe.

You can buy NS&I online and if you are short you can cash them in online and buy again later.

The funds take about 3 working days to arrive direct into your bank as with winnings that can be paid direct rather than by cheque.

I saw some statistics about the lottery comparing the odds with other life events and the chances of a big win are about the same as two workmates dying at the same weekend !

I use the NS&I like a deposit account last year my return was 1.5 % tax free all £25 minimum prizes. Not huge return but I have the anticipation when I check the holdings online

You never know when you might cop a bigger win !!
