I`ve decided to do a few bits on my patrol my self and need some info please,

1. i want to flush the cooling system so need to know how much coolant and what`s the best type

2. oil change and filter, whats the best oil and filter for the job also molyslip would you advise it`s use

3. air filter i read abit about k+n filters are they the best

4. fuel filter again whats the best make etc

it`s a 2000 gr 2.8 110k on the clock had a new engine about 50k ago after the last owner stuck it in flood!

I will start you off Donal

Cooling system capacity
Without rear heater 11.8 Ltrs
With rear heater 12.9 Ltrs
Use 30% to 50% ethylene glycol anti-freeze

Engine oil, 6.4 litres for your motor including the filter, a 15w/40 oil will be fine, offering a wide temperature range protection. Any good quality mineral oil is ok. I use Shell Rimula X.
As for the filters its your prerogative really, working for a tractor dealership I often come across pattern part filters, some are fine and others are inadequate in their quality often containing less filtering paper / material area, this is best seen in air filters by noting the number of folds in the paper.
In an ideal situation it would make good practice to fit OE filters or a reputable named ones you can trust. I am currently running a Fram oil filter and a genuine Nissan fuel filter.
I have a K&N filter fitted, the sort that is fitted in the original air box, not sure if I would go for another if I had the choice again, but I did convince myself when I fitted it that it improved the performance a little. It is meant to last forever but will need cleaning and re-oiling along the way.

if money wasn`t a consideration would you use nissan genuine parts or is there better makes/brands available? Thanks for the help so far

I would but genuine if the money wasn’t an issue.

Vehicle manufacturers don’t normally make filters but they are bought in from various company’s such as Donaldson or Bosch with their part number and logos on and made to a standard and spec required by the manufacturer, you are then sure that they have been tested and assessed for quality etc before they are accepted and will do the job asked of them.

Hi Donal, just my 2p worth here.

I always use genuine parts on my 1993 Patrol 4.2D and have used this oil in all my vehicles and bikes for years.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the K&N air filter either.

thanks bat. i think i`ll go with the nissan parts it`s an extra few pound but it`s only a couple of times a year. i`m still tempted by the k+n filter, i`ll get a price on it today. thanks

I think sniffer uses the K&N in his Navara :?
I only use genuine parts too but that does'nt stop me keeping my eye out for a good cheap alternative.
Milners are good for parts for example.
We could do with more Jap truk part suppliers in this country. Our Yank & Oz comrades do well for this for them. We are so slow to take up on the hype in this country.

I don`t think anyone would say no to a bargain as long as the quality is good. I dont seem to be able to find a supplier with k+n filters around here also their web site dosen`t list a filter for my vehicle (gr 2.8 2000).Could anyone suggest a supplier in the U.k. or tell me is there a filter for this vehicle.
