Managed to get knocked off my motorbike today. Was doing about 60mph on the a40 :doh

Filtering through there was a slower scooter infront, I went for the inside lane when he moved over and bashed my handlebars, needless to say the weight of his rear on the front of my bars the bike went over.

I then proceeded to rolls Polly down the a40.... Must have flipped about 8 times or so if I remember right. The bike went off and did its own thing.. :doh also hitting a car...

When I eventually stopped I crawled to the grass verge n lay there for a min. Most of the traffic stopped, someone then pointed out that my bike was down the road...

The scooter dude actually stopped further up and came over to help, he was a young lad and seemed very guilty, think he thought it was his fault, however i see it as neither mine nor his.. I told him not to worry about it once we had put the bike on the verge. I then gathered what parts I could and whilst the adrenaline was still going I rode home before the pain :lol

I'll upload some pics :thumb2

Whoops so seems you were undertaking? would that be correct as not quite sure of your description, Rick

Yeah, it's the only way to get about, although yes I will not argue, I would not call it undertaking as technically a filter is a solid undertake and overtake the whole way.

He was very slow, once we had an opening I went to use the 2 left lanes as there were two more slow scooters infront of him, being much quicker than him I reached there before he did, however he still pulled across n caught my bars.

I guess it's the risks of filtering on the a40 :doh

Been riding along time and although I do continually learn I am a good rider, all my accidents seem to be related to things similar.

You were at fault undertaking, lucky for you it was not an artic

If the cops were involved expect a ticket for at least careless driving and your premium to go through the roof.

Look for the youtube video of the biker squashed between two artics, not a pretty sight

Get leathers save skin

The whole thing is just filtering. The police bikers do it also :clap

The scooter that hit me was about to do the same as me. Unfortunately there is no law in regards to filtering. Learnt this when I went on bike safe with the london met police. Rule of thumb is no more than 15mph above speed of moving traffic :thumb2 wouldn't hold up in court though.

Agree with Kitchenman, never, ever go out without leathers. My only off in 30 years of biking resulted in a couple of broken ribs but no gravel rash, my leathers didn't look so pristine though!

Well, I wasn't wearing letters but my gear is heavily armoured textiles.

I'm actually quite surprised as my gear is ok but it got me underneath still! :doh

Ouch! Gravel rash can be painful.

I used to wear 'Draggin Jeans' when it was hot, or on our yearly trips to Spain.
Never tested the jeans, but they are definitely better than nothing and a lot cooler.

Is that a 600 Divvy? :nenau

Yeah thats the daddy! My first bike from years ago, had another 9, always kept her on the side, shes so reliable. I still picked her up n rode home after it went down the A40 :lol

Shes such a great old bike, ill never get rid of her. I had her from 14,000 miles, maintained by an engineer who sadly passed away, bought for £1000

Shes still going strong now on 52,000 miles. Shes been all round europe with panniers and a 56L topbox. shes hit a hurse, bmw, old audi, had about 6 or 7 I think, always pick her back up :clap

Ouch

I am glad it was not more serious.

I am with you as a fellow biker it is filtering and perfectly legal.

Hope you recover soon as gravel rash id painful

Regards Paulp

Cheers ma dears :thumb2

filtering if a bit of a black hole in the law isnt it  I guess really it comes down to knock for knock over something like this.

That looks sore mate, undertaking can be dangerous, the police do it, but they are highly trained and very visible.
I'm amazed at the way some bikers ride (not saying you Alex) in traffic and have witnessed some very dangerous moves.
When I see riders doing it, I always say "Think bike" :doh:doh

Yeah actually I always keep saying, there are some right idiots out there on two wheels.

We see the gangster guys on their R1's with their hoodies, doing in excess of 180mph.. just thinking.. "jesus dude, if you come off"

The met told me if you come off at 30mph standard jeans will offer 1.5 seconds of friction before it wears away to skin.

you can imagine what it does to skin...

Unfortunately I have been to a few fatal smashes were motorcyclists where involved and skin and bone soon disappears when scraped on tarmac.
When I did my bike test, the examiner said "ride as if all other road users want to kill you and you should be OK"

Yep, I did CBT instructing for a short period, that was the standard phrase to the noobies. "everyone is trying to kill you"

or to the pizzahut lads who dont speak english "bikey, carey, smashey" :doh
hand gestures involved!

Sorry to hear of the "incident" , the most important thing is that everyone is able to make a complete recovery. Material things can be repaired or replaced.
You have some nasty friction burns there, but they will soon heal up in a week or two.

I used to ride a motorbike, had a few near misses, and the last one was the one that made me hang up my helmet and gloves.

It was a close shave with an arctic, I was riding at 30 in a 30 mph zone, headlight on, and he decided to turn in front of me... I had a choice drop the bike and slide under... in the days before they had the side crash bars on the trailers, OR hope he sees me at the last minute, and go in front.

This is what I did, luckily he saw me. There was no contact, so no damage to me or my bike, other than requiring clean under wear.
I stopped as I was shaking, and the b***ard, just carried on with his journey.

Other than driving my bike home, that was the last time I rode it.

I used to think that bikes are fine, if they are the only vehicles on the road, BUT your incident proves otherwise.
Knocked off by a fellow biker, well someone on two wheels.:doh

Maybe you put the crash bars on to the wrong vehicle.

Whilst on that subject, imagine the consequences of a biker coming off and hitting the front of your truck, compared to say a plastic bumper.:augie
As you found out, it doesn't have to be the biker's fault, and you were in a fairly low speed impact. You were lucky not to collide with an immoveable object.

Sell the bike, buy some more toys for the truck :bow

Your logic is flawless, but my heart tells me otherwise, I love the bike to bits, its been to hell and back with me and still purrs away. Been involved in so many "incidents" always keeps going :lol

all the techs at Honda and Jag keep saying, get rid of her, bin her, shes too old n abused, but alas, she keeps on purring. :naughty

All my mates said the same thing, but I've been married to her for 36 years lol...

No dinner for me tonight....:doh
