Above are my new trans filter and old, old one has deeper pick up an new one doesnt... i struggled like hell to find the new ones in this country without going to aus/nz.. ive now taken it out and need a new one a.s.a.p as this one is wrong.. does anyone know where i can get one please..

I know the new one looks like it is deeper as its a different shape but its not deep enough and on an incline will starve the box of oil.. couldnt of been a worse time as my van is in the garage aswell untill tuesday.. should have left it alone until van was back....

Did think to cut old one and rivet the bit on as a quick temp fix but!!!! Dont know about that....

Do you know which transmission is fitted?
If it's used on any other Nissan you might be able to source one by searching for another model with the same transmission .

What's the overall difference in height between the two where you have the rectangle hole?

Solarman, im changing as i dont know how old it is, not damaged just servicing change.

Elty, this filter is for nissan 300zx/patrol auto, thats what it says on the packaging.

Banshee, 1" difference..

Reluctant to put old one back in as it doesnt feel right, was some gooey crap which i have washed out with diesel, trouble is i cant see if there is anything else stuck inside, looks like i will end up washing the old one out some more and refitting then order some from oz. or i could make an extension to fit to the new one.

looks like a metal gause filter to me, in which case a wash out in solvent would be standard proceedure, I certainly would not be replacing it unless the gause was damaged, no point, Rick

I think it is just gause which surprised me when i took it off, i think a good clean and blow out then stick it back on..

Yes mate that is the way forward, nothing to gain by replacing it, Rick

Wow what a difference that made, changes so much smoother now... old fluid was quite dirty and well past its change date.. will give it a couple of months then give it another change once its well mixed with the fluid that remained in the torque converter...

Went for the fuchs titan 4000 dexron 3 after our conversation.. seems to have done the trick. About £54 delivered for ten litres however rather awkwardly i had to use 5.8 litres to top up so now need some more to do another change.
