hi all
when i get the t2 back from the garage.again, i want to change all the oils so i know its done properly, gear box, engine, rear diff,
anything else i need to worry about
how much will i need for each one and what are the best oils to use in other members experience,
hopefully this will be the last time it will be at the garage for a while as i,m getting a bit fed up driving around in their nissan note,at least it's a nissan i suppose!!
thanks in advance

Starter for 10 - the rear diff oil, MUST be LSD.

Comma LS80W-90 Gear Oil (Limited Slip) is the stuff. 2.8 litres needed at around £6-7/ltr.:):)

2.7l diesel engine 6.2l 10-40 with filter changed.

rear diff 2.8l 80-90 LSD api gl5

front diff 1.3l 80-90 api gl5

gearbox 3.5l 80-90 api gl4

transfer 2.3l type dexron ( but I understand gear oil can be used but not mixed) but my book says dextron.

I found that a funnel with a flexible end from halfords useful, the flexible end screwed directly on to the one litre comma oil bottles I used. To fill the gearbox I pushed a length of 1/2in hose down through the engine compartment pushed the end in the gearbox filler and then poured the oil down the tube using the funnel under the bonnet

I paid £3.26L for the LSD £3.11L dexron and £16-66 for 5L gear oil and £2-77L for front diff
all plus VAT trade from Autoparts, all Comma oils regards bri

When I recently changed my rear diff oil I used a squeezy ketchup bottle :augie

1 litre bottle, cleaned out, squirted in 3 times!!! :thumbs cheaper then halfords

...well, if you can put SVO in the tank.... why not ketchup in the diffs!!!! :D:D:D

Nissan Workshop Manual states as per above except

Gearbox - 75w/90 API GL4 is recommended for this climate
Engine - 15w/40 is recomended for this climate
Transfer 2.3L 75w/90 API GL4

With regard to the transfer probably bestto refll with whatever is in there already. ATF/Dexron is usually red (or at least coloured) gear oil is just oil (straw) coloured.

I used EP 80w-90 in my gearbox, and I would suggest it is too thick- changes from 1st to 2nd when the box is cold is quite stiff now.

I am looking into using a more modern low viscosity gear-oil..

Also I am sure the manual gearbox holds about 5 litres of oil to bring it upto the level plug, mine does at least!

Tim.

Just use 75w/90 as Nissan recomend - modern synthetic oils are not thinner, they just stay in grade better and longer.

Mines approx the same age as yours and mine took the stated 3.5L ish to fill.

I took the oil type and amounts from the handbook that came with my 1997 2.7i and considering that we had -9c this year and Im off soon to tow my caravan around southern france till september and have had 40c in the past I chose the oils to suit. regards bri
p.s. I use semi-synthetic in the engine

thanks for all the replies
i.ll be down the motor factors these weekend to stock up
cheers
