hi all,

can anyone help with this.

I have just done a much needed oil change and notice oil on the fins of the turbo. at both front and rear.

I undone the 4 bolts to find that there is a bit of oil along the bottom at the pipe end but not dripping at all.

any ideas?

Sounds normal ive never seen a turbo that didnt look oily as long as its not burning oil nothing to worry about

I've just stripped down a scrap turbo and it was minging  Oil gets stuffed in from the oil blow by thing in theory to get reburnt in the engine:augie
I've bypassed that now and my turbo AND intercooler are now shiny clean :D

It's because they put the oil breather into the front turbo pipe :doh

Had to be this side otherwise it would pressurise the crankcase if on the otherside of the tubo, then you will see lots of oil leaks then.

There has been reports of some engines that keep running on, even when switched off, so oil could be the fuel, either delivered by the crank case breather, or through worn bearings on the turbo.

Some oil sounds normal to me. Also I have noticed a slight coating of thin oil on the rubber pipes that go over the engine from the turbo. A wipe every 2 years seems to clear it.
