There are two one is by the oil filter and the other hides behind the starter motor.
Is your oil light staying on?

Kind regards

Russell.

i know that the 3ltr terrano has the problem with the oil switch its the one by the starter that causes the oil light to come on its the high pressure one it has a yellow band as the one by filter is low pressure i think one is 2.5 low and high is 5.2 changed one the other £6 from local factors common fault on terrano 3ltr apparently

Same engine bud and same recurring fault, the high pressure switch can't cope with the pressure fluctuations.

Wheelie, you've got two options, replace the switch or fit an oil pressure gauge and earth the connections to get the light off. From memory the low pressure connector needs to be left open and the high pressure one is the one that you earth.

When I bought my Patrol, the garage "serviced" it before I picked it up, turns out their idea of a service was to put the most horrid nasty oil they could find in it. Next morning I started it up and the oil light came on, this scared the life out of me but I did remember seeing something about it on the net, search revealed a good way to test the switch is to start the vehicle buy turning the key straight to the start position without stopping and waiting for the preheat light to go off, when you do this the oil light should go off.
I test started mine a dozen times and every time I stopped key midway and resumed turning after the pre heat light went out the oil light stayed on, every time I put the key in and instantly turned it to the cranking position the light went out, this convinced me that the fault is electrical not low oil pressure.
I fitted a upgrade kit to mine that Nissan happily robed me of about £110.00 for, however 3 years later same problem, best and quickest fix is to replace hp oil switch only forget the kit and budget for another switch in 3 years time.

Kind regards

Sorry you had to go through that hardship to offer good advice Russ.

Thanks for the info Russel. I think it’s resolved itself now, I have plenty of oil pressure and the light is now extinguished so guess it was all the water I went through the day before, if it happens again I’ll replace the switch
