Hi all
I have an oil leak from my transfer box I have been told that
This is a common fault on the 2.7 Maverick has any one had
A similar problem? And if so what was the remedy?

I guess it depends how bad and where from, is it where the prop shaft comes out of the box, mine leaked about 1 drop per month I have since used molyslip in both the transfer and the main box to quieten them down and the moly slip also soften the seals and reduces leaks.
Now.... no leak.
The following is a note from Molyslip.. See threads..

Moly slip gearbox treatment
The Multiglide is for both manual and automatic trans as well as semiautomatic (tiptronic) as well as limited slip diff.
It just happens to be a fully synthetic detergent rich viscosity improver with anti foaming agents and seal preservatives .It can be mixed with barium based hypoid gear oils, in cases wear there is severe bearing wear and or leaking seals. It is also perfectly suited for MTF applications. (newer trans that use a synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid)
For you needs about 105ml of G in the trans and about 100ml of Multiglide that should quiet the bearings right down and help keep your seals sticky and pliable just in case the bearing wear has stretched the seals any. use another 100 ml of Multiglide in the rear diff as it should be a LSD.

hope this helps, best regards, Rustic

Sorry for the delay in replying we have just moved back to Hertfordshire
And thanks for the reply. The leak is coming from the gear linkage seal
I have bean told that I will have to replace the whole part and not just the
Seal, so when I find my service CD I will get on with it.

Hi everyone i'm new to the site so heres my first of many questions :)
Sorry to drag up an old thread but i have a R reg 2.7 terrano and it looks like its leaking oil from the gear linkage, more so when its hot.
Is this an easy driveway fix or would i be better putting it into a garage?
What parts are needed?
I'm pretty competent when it comes to the spanners so if its not too technical i'll giove it a go myself.
What do you reckon?

Great site by the way :thumb:
Cheers Matt
