My T2 seems to consume more engine oil than it ought too.

It has no excessive smoke or leaks, maybe a drop from the sump plug as i didnt replace the washer on the last oil change.

but! the clips on the turbo side of the intercooler have been changed for jubilee clips and it is nice and dry.

on the other side they are the

the original grip type clips and things are covered with a film of oil, could this be the problem?

sorry i cant help but on the upside you will always have good oil in it....

Unusual for the TD27 to use oil. Check for leaks, and the PCV box / hoses being blocked.

i will get it in the garage and have a mess with it as soon as i get the chance cheers for the advice :thumb2

My T2 is using up a bit of oil also. Looks like it could be a litre and a half or so every 6,000 miles. No sign of any oil leaking though. No problems with smoke or any other unusual running problems. Oddly is also uses a bit of water for some reason and there is no sign of any water leaks either and the temp gauge goes to just under half way and never moves from there once warm.

it's odd, i'm confident it isn't leaking as the engine bay is spotless, apart from the bit around the intercooler, and there is none underneath. Apart from a small drip after the recent oil change. But at the oil change we only drained 2 or three litres out and i had to put nearly another liter in it again the other day. Having said that it had towed a 2 tonne plus trailer for a few hundred miles inbetween so it had worked pretty hard.

but no water loss and no heating or power issues.

how much are we talking plank. loads ?

I'm not realy sure just more than woudl have expected, after about 500 miles or so after new oil went in to just under the full mark i had to put half a litre in to get it back to the minimum ( i said a litre before but i just checked ho wbig the oil botle was :doh). I'm assuming it must have used about a litre? I dont know the difference between minimum and maximum marks.

If you only drained two or three litres out are you sure if was filled up at the last oil change. These engines usually take between 6 and 7.5 litres I thought depending on which engine. If it was using up or losing 3 to 4.5 litres of oil between oil changes you should notice it someplace as that does seem a bit excessive. That said, mine uses a good bit from what I can tell and there is no noticable problem or leaks. In fact, my mpg seems to be above the general average indicated by other members as I seem to be getting in and around the 30 to 32 mpg.

my t2 never uses oil even though I tow a caravan around Europe, but I never exceed 3000rpm
Could your breather be blocked? any blue smoke? regards bri

i've not noticed any blue smoke and it's runs well enough. I will check breather etc when i get a chance. I am also going to replace the hose clips on the intercooler and clean that out too. My main problem at the moment is finding the time :(
