Our 4x4 response group had an off road training day today, and as expected the T2 took everything in it's stride...

Actually, many of the LR brigade were put to shame as she summited hills that they were only getting half way up. In fact, one hill was so bad, that in the end they changed it from up only, to down only, as my T2, and a Patrol were the only ones who could get up it. :clap

I had so many positive comments from everyone about how surprised they were that the T2 on AT's were so good, it was actually very easy to start feeling quite smug... :augie

There was only one hill we failed totally on, and that had a series of cross articulation holes near the top, and with my car in normal road worthy set up, with it's torsion bars still on, I just could not keep enough tyre on the ground to keep moving forward... The only vehicle to actually get up that hill was a LR110 with multiple diff locks, which came over the summit with only 1 wheel on the ground, and we seriously thought it was going to roll... So no loss of pride for us there...

Suz had a great day as well, pinching the car every chance she got and took it everywhere anyone else did.

All in all, a very good day.

Yeah looked like a great day. I’ve had people tell me that my Terrano isn’t a proper 4x4 it’s just a softroader. Little do they know though have to say nearest to off road mine goes is a supermarket car park, previous truck did green lanes really well.

“How to let the wife drive and not worry” :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

:lol:lol Oppps, she is not amused!!!!

What training did you do?

Basically this is a bit of everything, we take over a local campsite, so it is a social event, and then have the off road site booked for both days.

Depending on your level of knowledge/confidence, you can decide on what training you want/need to do.

We have a fully qualified BORDA trainer on the team, so he runs basic safe off road driving courses, then winching courses for those that want to learn.

For those of us that are a bit more confident/have done the training, we can practice things like failed hill climbs in a safe environment, which was one of the things I was doing with Suz, the problem was getting the T2 to fail.:lol

We also do things like timed cane trials, to teach manoeuvring in a hostile environment, and navigation exercises, but also have a lot of fun.

Mine is very hard to stall, it will climb very rough terrain at extremely steep angles in 1st low just on tickover :bow

:D :thumbs Still need to look out for big holes hidden in long grass though :doh:lol

I knew a girl like that:doh

Yeah it was a bit of a jolt wasn’t it pal but your truck didn’t care just carried on. I was a bit twitchy expecting to walk back to get recovery but no your truck was having nome of that.

I have managed to break one of Craigs rose jointed arb links on the front, thats how much stick shes taken bless her :doh:lol

That was something I was showing Suz, going up hill, you only need to touch the accelerator to give you enough momentum as soon as you crest the hill, you can back right off, and going down, you don't have to touch any pedals as the engine has more than enough braking for even the steepest hills....

There was one technically challenging hill, where the engine actually slowed the wheels to the point they were travailing slower than the car, allowing the wheels to slide as the surface was so broken up, so you actually had to use the accelerator to keep the wheels turning, just so you could control it properly.

Top Tip. If you're going offroading, you only need undo one nut and bolt off the near side rear ARB drop link. That will give you full back axle flex. Then simply do it up before you go home :thumbs
My rose jointed drop links by the way have never failed in 35" tyre competition work. Have you got double ended ones and welded bracket to bottom arm ?

Good tip... is there any reason why it has to be the near side?
